I had a kidney removed 5 years ago following the discovery of a T1 tumour on the outside of the kidney. For 3 years I had CT scans every 6 months. For the last 2 years I've had a CT scan every 12 months. I had my final scan 2/3 weeks ago. I have just received a letter asking me to attend oncology but no additional information was given. When I've had all of the previous scans i have received a letter a few weeks later to confirm all was reassuringly clear.  Why have they called me in now? Is it to have a face to face to sign me off or should I expect the worst and prepare for a  secondary cancer diagnosis

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

That's great news to hear that your scans have been clear since having a kidney removed 5 years ago.

I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies. This could be because no one knows the answer to the question you're asking or just simply because your post has fallen off the first page of discussions before it has been seen buy someone who can help.

By replying to you it will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussions list and I'm also 'tagging' this group's Community Champion into my reply, as she may be able to tell you what normally happens when you reach the five year mark.

I was diagnosed with melanoma 4 years ago so have three monthly physical check-ups with my consultant. I know this isn't the same as you but I would expect at the end of my 5 years of follow-up to be told face-to-face that they no longer need to see me. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this is why you've been called in.

Whatever happens, do come back and let us all know.
