Skin nodules

My lobectomy was cancelled due to skin nodules which sound harmless but I've got dozens of them. They add to the adrenals, scapula and both lungs (oh and a brain met but I might have got away with that following gamma knife treatment). I stopped Nivomulab and started Cabozantinib 8 days ago.

I'm partially relived as the operation was a bit daunting but I've been looking for other peoples' experience of skin nodules if that is the correct term. They are like cysts and I have them predominately in all four limbs. My oncologist said they're to do with the cancer but this may be because they're reluctant to use the C word despite the fact I have said I just like it to be said how it is. Faultless service from the NHS though so I can't complain about any of it.

Also, I had 4 days of absolute exhaustion. Is this the Cabozantinib  or does it take longer for side effects to kick in?

Many thanks for those with advice,

Phil

  • Hi ,

I'm sorry to see that you not had any replies yet.  I am afraid I have no experience of either the skin nodules or Cabozantinib that you are asking about but believe that and are both on Cabozantinib.  's husband was also moving onto this medication recently.

You might want to check back with your oncology team about the nodules as once you have a bit more info it might be easier to ask others on the forum if they have any similar experiences.

I hope that you are feeling a bit better now and have got some energy back.

    All the best,

    Gragon x

    • Hi Phil, Nice to meet you.
sorry you have been having a bad time. I am sorry I don’t have any information on skin nodules. I was thinking that they may have cancelled the lobectomy due to skin nodules impairing healing or something along those lines? I find it helpful to write things down and to discuss them with my oncology specialist nurse who can help with questions I have. She can also pass on information to my oncologist.
Do you have a nurse allocated Phil? Maybe she could spread a bit more light on this for you and give you some information and explain the reasons why. I’m sorry as this must be difficult for you at an already difficult, upsetting and stressful time. I started out on Cabozantinib 60mg and I found they can make you very tired and lethargic. I felt as though all my energy had been sucked away. I didn’t really get any other side effects until after around 14 days. Iv been told this is around the time it takes for toxicity levels to build up to a level that causes the side effects. And it took that for me to start getting side effects. Fingers crossed you don’t get them too badly.
Feeling tired and exhausted is one of the side effects of Cabo and as  said to me Cabo can have some awful side effects. But is an amazing drug with some good results. Also that the Drs have lots of tricks up their sleeves to help counter act the side effects you may get for you.
im sorry I couldn’t help much with the skin nodules. Hopefully your nurse or oncologist will be able to give you some more information. Maybe try some foods that give you energy such as slow release carbs, porridge for breakfast with banana or some fresh fruit might help.
      Best Wishes D x
