Hi, I’ve not posted for a while a brief summary my hubby was diagnosed with Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma in April he is stage & grade 4, he started on 600mg of Pazopanib on the 1st July and then was taken off it during a stay in hospital as they says it’s toxic to his liver. 2 weeks ago I had a meeting with a consultant and they gave a prognosis of 1 to 2 years then 5 days after they said his condition was deteriorating and did a fast track pathway out of hospital and a prognosis of weeks & months and said he was too ill to try a different treatment, when I asked the criteria for there decision I was told he didn’t meet 3 rules 1) out of bed for 1/2 day 2) eating and drinking enough 3) blood levels, when I heard this I went ballistic as he had been in hospital for 32 out of the past 42 days in there care and no one had mentioned to me he wasn’t doing 1 & 2, and as I could not visit due to COVID 19 i couldn’t see anything, I feel he has got institutionalised and left while in there, since he’s been home for 4 days he is eating & drinking and mobile, going up n down stairs, getting in & out of the bath and walking from room to room, they sent him home with a full care package which I’m not using as it’s not needed and an electric bed and commode etc, he’s sleeping in our bed and using our toilet with no adaptations, to say I’m not happy  is an understatement. I want to get a second opinion via NHS or private as it needs to happen quickly so I wondered if anyone had done this and how easy was it. Thanks

  • So Sorry Buttercup19, i can't help you but i do feel for you. Make your self known and let them know how he really is. I'm not sure but think you go theough your docter for a second opinion. Hope someone with more knowledge than me will be along. Good luck x

  •  Hi ,

It sounds like the hospital has made no effort to see if your husband is capable of meeting the first two criteria.  It does seem to be a nothing to lose situation but be aware that they still might not act based on the blood results alone but I hope not.

I also have no experience of getting a second opinion but Macmillan have an information page about it.  If you click here you will be taken to it.  I hope that it is useful.

All the best to you and your husband,

    Gragon xx
