Kidney and Breast Cancer

Fiona I am so sorry you got this double diagnosis! A unique club we both belong too. I know just how you feel. I was diagnosed with a blood cancer, kidney cancer and possible breast cancer. The breast cancer was quickly ruled out but my head just couldn’t decide which cancer to focus on! I was told that renal cell cancer grows very slowly at around .75 of a cm in a year so an operation delay wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Hopefully some one else will come along with advice for you.

Just noticed your message title and have popped over from the Breast Group 

Most breast lumps aren't cancer but as they are 90% sure your lump is cancerous your fears may be confirmed :-/    Any treatment plan will depend on the pathology results as there are several different types of BC with varying treatment regimes.

Treatment for  breast cancer is much faster paced than the time frame you mention above for your RCC; so if needed you could be having breast surgery before your August Renal appointment ?

Thank you Dreamthief, I have to go back on Tuesday for my biopsy results and discussion re treatment options! I am hoping that the results are within the 10% but I have been here before with the kidney cancer when initially I was told that there was a 50-60% chance that the growth was cancerous but then was told that the biopsy just confirmed what they really knew that it was indeed RCC...its be a difficult time and I also lost my Mum to Covid-19 a few weeks ago but I am keeping on an even keel! So sorry to read about your mum, as if you didn't have enough emotional 'stuff' going on at the moment - Losing a loved one to Covid is an unpleasant way to have them leave you

Thanks Jane, it is certainly an odd time! That’s my breast cancer been confirmed now and I have to go for surgery next week and wait to hear what’s happening about the kidney cancer surgery too...interesting times...Fxx

Thank you Dreamthief , I had my appointment on Tuesday and it has come back that I have HEP2 breast cancer and I am scheduled to go in for a lumpectomy next week  I have been advised that I will need to go for both chemotherapy and radiotherapy as part of my treatment plan and I am in the process of waiting for confirmation about how this treatment will fit in with my kidney cancer surgery... I am taking things in on a certain level and trying to get myself organised as I get the sense that it could be a difficult few months ahead? I am a single parent with no family to offer support so I will need to rally round my friends re care and activities for my daughter to keep her busy over the summer holidays! I have joined the breast cancer group now but I haven’t been able to post so may have done it wrong! Fiona xx

Sorry to read your fears were confirmed but I had the impression you were half expecting it - Doesn't stop the worry of having to cope with another primary though :-/

You definitely have joined the breast group but sometimes it can take a few minutes to register in the system before you can start a new discussion; if you give it another try you should find it works now.

My wife's BC was also HER2+ positive - please don't google her2+ most of the info out there is way out of date, scary and very misleading.  Unfortunately it is quite a long drawn out treatment regime for her2+ but included with the chemo are new targetted biological therapies that are game changers for this type of BC. You won't be starting chemo until about 3 weeks post lumpectomy as you need to be fully healed first - at least this will give you time to get chatting with the breast group ladies and getting lots of support and advice.  There is a discussion thread about breast surgery you could look for under the discussions tab. Mostly lumpectomies are short stay (sometimes same day with morning surgery) and commonly a hassle free recovery period.

J was diagnosed in May 2012, so 8 years ago now,  be reassured by this that the treatment works

Thank you G n’ J, I realised that I was able to post then saw your message, it’s clear that my brain wasn’t properly functioning as I was texting HEP2  I am looking forward to being part of the group and reading through others experiences and advice! I did think that it was going to be confirmed this week and I am beginning to get a sense that there is going to be a bit of a journey ahead...I am hoping to hear today when the lumpectomy will be next week and also if and when my kidney surgery will be too as there was some talk of them both being done together...it’s back to that limbo period again of waiting and I suspect that this is only the  beginning...will keep up with you all over the fence! Certainly there will be the odd duvet day, chemo causes some fatigue but you don't feel rubbish all the time.

Normally the lumpectomy is not as scary or painful as most imagine but if they double up with your kidney surgery it will mean a longer stay and recovery period. Hopefully that won't delay your chemotherapy by too long.

As for the HEP... If you want to edit the title of your discussion in the breast group; look underneath your message and next to the words 'alert moderator' you will see the word 'More'  If you click More you will get two options Edit or Delete.  Just select Edit and replace the P with an R and post it back. You will only see the word more under your own messages.

To make any discussions easier to find you can Save them to Your Favourites tab on your profile page. You can see the options in the 'Discussions Toolbox' window on the right hand side
