Hi everyone after a radical nephrectomy last Nov I started a course of nivo/ipil immunotherapy for mets in my lungs as cancer had spread to lungs. Had my ct scan results today, a mixed bag to say the least, great news in that all the mets on lungs have pretty much been resolved and shrunk treatment working well. On the absolute downside I have a new 23mm mass on my remaining kidney, consultant advised my imaging is being sent to Dr Breen an intervention radiologist at Southampton to see if he can do cryoablation procedure on the new mass and freeze it off so to speak as that my best option, wondered has anyone had this. To say it has been a shock today is a huge understatement as I didn’t think for a minute my other kidney would be infected and my consultant was equally surprised and said it was rare, wonderful hey.

So me again I have had a call and will be having cryoablation in the next two weeks be really grateful if anyone has and this procedure to let me know what it’s like recovery etc thanks so much

  • Hi ,

I'm sorry that you have had no responses but although I have heard of people having cryoablation it does not appear to be discussed much.  Hopefully this means that it is straightforward and the people who have had it have no reason to return to the site.

Here is a link to the last discussion in this group Click Here started by .  I had a look on the Secondary Lung group where several members have had RFA where heat is used rather than cold but could not find anything about cryoablation.

I'm pleased to hear that the current treatment has worked on your lung mets but surprised to hear that you have a new mass on your kidney.  23mm does not sound too large although obviously any size of growth is unwanted so hopefully they can get rid of it for you.

In the meantime I would just continue to regard yourself as rare and wonderful.

    All the best,

    Gragon xx

Gragon thank you so much for your reply means a lot, I am hoping the cryoablation is straightforward it seems so when I have read about it, yes rare and wonderful ha I like that thank you. It was just a shock to get such godpod news about the treatment working so well on lung yet a new tumour on my kidney but as I have said hopefully they can freeze it off and get rid of it and soon. Thanks again I hope you are keeping safe and well look after yourself x

  • Hi .

It might be worth you looking at the Kidney Cancer UK website? They have a bit under cryotheraphy.
