Waiting times...

Hi everyone, I have still to complete my profile but I wanted to ask a question! My GP has advised me that I will get an appointment for my CT scan in 6-7 weeks and that the next appointment with the
Urologist will take place after that and I was hopeful that this meant that things were moving forward! However, my appointment letter came through today and I don’t have to go back to see him until the 8th of August which feels a long time away! I have been advised that I have RCC  and the tumour is 5cm but I don’t know much else...does a 6-7 months wait for an operation sound average (although I am aware that the Covid-19 pandemic must be slowing things down! Thanks, Fiona

  • Hi ,

    Welcome to the group.

There's no average at the moment but an August date probably means they're hoping all will be back to " normal," by then.

Also, kidney cancer is a slow grower compared to other cancers, so again August is not too long to wait from that perspective.

    Hi Fiona

I'm going to stick my neck out and say no that's not average and although we know that in real life our treatments are affected - according to the government - they're not.

I'm trying to find the guidelines for you, but I remember clearly quoting them to my surgeon when I was going to be pushed outside of them. I had initial problems in the May and had surgery 17th July - so 60 days is what is coming to mind for some form of treatment to start. As you say with Covid-19 being an issue you might expect some delay - but not that much.

Let me see if I can find the guidelines - unless anyone else can?

    Hi Fiona

62 days from urgent referral to first treatment - it's everywhere in this guide

    Hope that helps.

  • Yes, 60 days rings a bell with me now
