Hi my other half has been confirmed with Renal cell carcinoma. He went into hospital for the 3rd time a few days ago with very bad back and stomach pains. He has also picked up some sort of infection while he’s been in hospital and is now on a drip for fluids and antibiotics. We won’t know anymore until Monday. I think my world has just fallen apart.

  • Hi stump tig, welcome to the group, tho I'm sorry to hear your husband has bad back n stomach pains.

Kidney cancer is one of the better cancers to have - in that it's a slow grower. The usual way of dealing with it is surgery to remove the affected kidney, as folk can function with only one. In fact, some are born with only one.

After that, any secondaries are treated with systemic drugs, of which there are more being developed all the time. Many of us on this site are on one variety or another

I'm currently on a treatment break of over 3.5 years n have kidney cancer for over 14 years .

The op is doable tho he may b walking around the ward with a Zimmer frame to start with. The main thing is to keep moving.

Other ppl will probably chip in with their twopennorth. We're a friendly n voluble bunch!

U might also want to join the Family n friends group - to get some more  support for yourself.

Let us know how u get on on Monday please.

Hi thanks for the message. How do I get on the friends and family thing please?

im just back from my 2 visits to see him today and likelihood is that he’ll be transferred to Christie’s in the next day or 2, the doctors are having a meeting in the morning to decide what to do. Thanks again means a lot

  • In the same way u joined the Kidney cancer group altho this time, go to Cancer experiences then  Family and friends and Join. You can then start a new discussion or reply to an  existing  post. Sorry I can't send u a link

Christie's is one of THE places in the North to go for cancer. So he'll be in a good place.

    Do keep us updated x

    Hi

So sorry you've found yourself here, but hopefully you'll get lots of support.

I hope that your husband is feeling a bit better now and you've started to get some information.

I'm 5 years post nephrectomy and whilst I have advanced kidney cancer like many people here I'm perfectly fine and totally stable. Our treatments are really very promising. Hopefully your husband will have a nephrectomy and that will be that. As my surgeon told me, it can literally be a cure, so I'll be keeping fingers crossed for you both.
