Hi Everyone

I can't believe I am having to write this but my 28, perfectly fit and healthy husband was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer yesterday. The have also seen a node in the lung which they need to investigate (CT Scan) He should be having a biopsy sometime next week and then a full removal of the kidney asap. The biopsy will help them investigate the lung. I dont even really know what I am asking or what I want from people. I am just terrified and any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi HLN101,

Welcome to the group, tho I'm sure you'd rather not be here .

Well the good news is that kidney cancer is slow growing, com, pared with other cancers. Other folk in the group will no doubt confirm that.

I've had mine for 14 years n altho it pops up as a secondary every 2 .5 to 3 .5 years, I'm still here n have no intention of pushing up daisies any time soon!

There are lots of drugs being developed all the time, so even if it has spread to a  lung node it's still treatable. There' s a  no of ppl here who've been on systemic drugs for some years now.

Ask any other questions and between us we'll do our best to answer them.

Btw, u might want to join the Family and friends group as well - to get some support for yourself. Also do put a bit in your profile, to help others know where you're " coming from"

Fear of the unknown is the worst thing. Once we know what we're facing, we find the strength to deal with it.

    Hi

Sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis, I know this is an incredibly worrying time for you.

I'm guessing like most of us here he'll have a nephrectomy and any follow up treatment will depend on the lung nodule. I was told that a lung nodule could be scar tissue from a chest infection as an example - so there are reasonable explanations other than a secondary.

For what it is worth, my surgeon describes a nephrectomy as a potential cure - literally no further treatment required. I have a friend who has been in this scenario for 7 years now.

Hopefully as he is so young it will have been found early and your husband will have that outcome too.

Wishing you both lots of luck.
