Hi to everyone,

It's been a scary few months and I know other people are in the same boat.

Went to the Dr's for a Hernia that developed from work had a Ultra Scan found kidney stones had a CT scan a found 1 enlarged lymph node in my abdomen... just like that.

Bloods very quickly and then visit heamotolgy where I have a dormant or slow growing lymph node near my spleen.

But my whole body and brain has gone on alert I've been off for 3 days with a nasty sore throat (nothing wrong with that people say) yet I go into hyperactive mode checking my neck lymph nodes.

Phoned the GP and reassued me all the lymph nodes in my neck were perfectly fine.

I'm awaiting my biopsy in 2 weeks but I have been washed out this week with just a sore throat literally taken to my bed for 3 days.

The GP explained how my body is fighting the infection in my throat but it makes me think more about my body and what I do?

I have grandkids with snivelling noses, work colleagues who are always off sick ...

This is like a new life?

Xxx

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us.

I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.

For some context I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

As you have not had a biopsy I am assuming that your actual exact diagnosis has yet to happen…….?

If this is the case….. there are over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma so this can take time. We don’t have a group for each type of Lymphoma but that is for another day.

The bottom line is Lymphoma, regardless the type is very treatable……as I said I was diagnosed in 1999 age 44 with my first T-Cell Lymphoma when our daughters were 14 and 18…… I continued to work for 12 years in a demanding teaching job and yes had various treatments over these first 14 years then in late 2013 a second rare T-Cell Lymphoma came along taking me to stage 4……. but this was all very treatable….. as we went on to see our daughters graduate, get married, set up very successful businesses and provide us with 4 beautiful granddaughters….. I turn 70 at the end of this year and as a family we celebrated 9.5 years since my last treatment.

I am living a great life and we continue to look forward to what else life has in store for us to enjoy…….. this can be done.

As for how you are felling don’t over think this and definitely don’t allow anxiety rule the space between your ears……. You most likely would have had nasty sore throat regardless….. but the words cancer makes the brain over think everything…… try to live as normal a life as you can.

    Any questions just ask them,

    Mike (Thehighlander)
