  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups.

I don’t have HL but was diagnosed in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of NHL Stage 4a and although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I have experienced ‘the’ treatment journey but not necessarily the exact same drug mix.

ABDV is a full on treatment but it is very effective so lets look for some of the group members to pick up on your post and give you first hand experiences.

Do keep talking with your medical team with regards to your Pain and Nausea control as it's often trial and error to get this right - don't suffer in silence.

Eating can be a challenge but you must persevere as your body needs fuel.

My main mass was in my neck, it looked like I had swallowed a brick!! It was something out of a Tom and Jerry film. My jaw had seized, my gums had swollen and we're coming up to cover my teeth. I was having great difficulty eating and was living on a liquid diet and my breathing was starting to be restricted.

So I was living on regular small cups of good quality liquidised homemade soups and scrambled egg....... but once treatment started my appetite improved as the treatment was basically melting away the grow areas in front of our eyes.

Do also check out Lymphoma Action, a small but very active UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have lots of good information, videos and run regular regional online Lymphoma support groups and indeed a very great Lymphoma Buddy Service.

Always around to chat and answer questions as best I can at any time ((hugs))

  • Hi! Very sorry to hear of your diagnosis and I hope treatment is progressing well. I’ve found ondansetron to be helpful for nausea. I’ve also found that half of a lemon squeezed in water, and small bites of bread/cracker is helpful. Good luck!!!

  • Hi. First time I’ve joined a chat on anything. Sorry about your diagnosis, I was diagnosed Christmas Eve lol yay merry Christmas, I also have multiple sclerosis abd Crohn’s disease, and a metal cageRoflround the bottom of my spine ( 83 tablets a day before I started treatment now 109 a day  ) ( I'm also a qualified nurse)  so I understand the sickness and nausea totally, although you may not feel like eating the main thing is fluids, keep drinking water and even the smallest amount of food is better than nothing, a water biscuit or a digestive anything to line the stomach,  I started my treatment last week and felt crap for 24 hours but i think I’m one of the lucky ones as I’m still dashing about here there and everywhere and doing the same things I was doing before treatment started not sure if I will suffer as time goes on but for now I feel really good,  sickness and nausea is a horrid feeling especially when combined with pain,  as the pain can you make severely sick, talk to your doctor, your consultant and your cancer nurse, they will all have ideas to help you,  make sure your pain meds are doing the job they are meant to do. ( one of mine is not prescribed very often and I had to get a special arrangement with my docs and the BMI etc etc as I take more than the legal dose )  things will all fall into place and hopefully everything will be covered for you,  I wish you luck and hope you start to feel better soon.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to you as well although it's never great to see folks coming onto the Lymphoma rollercoaster.

Do check out the links I put up in the first post and as always, the group is hear to listen and support.
