Hi everyone.
Sorry for bizarre question but I had a surgery for a posterior lateral partial glossectomy 19 days ago. Im so blessed to not need radiotherapy.
Im still healing and stitches beginning to fall out (I thought they mostly dissolved) but I had this strong bonfire smell for 4 days, and wondered if its connected to the nerves as I had high pitched tinnitus anyway for year before diagnosis and i know all the ENT bits seems to run together.
Thankyou and hoping you all doing OK x
Hi Sue1959,
My name is Matthew, and I work as part of the Online Community Team. I spotted that your post hadn't had any replies yet, so I wanted to say hello and welcome you to the site.
I'm sorry to hear about the side-effect your procedure seems to have caused. I hope you're continuing to heal well.
While we wait for other members of the Community to comment, I wonder if you also might like to ask your question over on our Ask a Nurse forum? That way, one of our clinically experienced Cancer Information Nurse Specialists will see your question, and should be able to give you a little further insight into possible causes/remedies for this phenomena. Just start a new discussion thread on the Ask a Nurse forum with your question as the first post, and one of our nurses will reply within 3 working days (usually much sooner).
You can also speak to a nurse using the Macmillan Support Line on freephone 0808 808 00 00. The Support Line is open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Just select the option to speak to one of our Cancer Information Nurse Specialists, and you will be connected as soon as the next one is available. You can also reach them by email or live webchat.
I hope that helps, and thanks for joining the Online Community!
Hello Sue
I think the smell sensation must be quite unusual and that's why nobody has replied - because they haven't experienced it. We do get a lot of weird side effects though! I hope it is a transitory thing and not too bothersome in the meantime
