Hi there,
I just got back from the oncologist appointment. Had to have an mri scan a few weeks ago as 1st pet scan at 12 week post radiotherapy showed a hotspot. I've been so stressed.
The oncologist did the usual ,scope down throat ,visual check in mouth. He said he couldn't see anything unusual and had discussed my scan results with the panel, and they've decided that they think its scar tissue showing on the scan. But he will arrange another pet scan in 3 months to double check. I asked would he not do a biopsy but he said he didn't need to, he wasnt worried. Im so relieved, I had geared myself up for bad news. I know im not out of the woods yet but its such a relief.
Also I can have my peg removed .....yayyyyy. He asked if I was using it , and when I said only once a day he asked why once , I said because I have surplus ensures left which I can't drink as they taste awful so im using them so the dont go to waste. He laughed.
I know ill be stressed again when next scan result is looming, but I feel ive cleared another hurdle.
Tracy xx
Well done Tracy now go and forget it for a few months
I know how stressed you were as I’ve been in the same spot( hot )
My team decided to biopsy for speed but not being able to see anything the had to take multiple samples from everywhere. I was sore for ages!!!
Rsy is right about early scans. My oncologist said they would prefer to scan at six months.
You can understand why. If you’re still in pain with swallowing at scan time it’s hardly surprising
Thanks Dani. I was really expecting a biopsy to be honest. And im very lucky that other than my tongue or jaw aches a bit after chewing im in no pain and haven't been for the last 5 weeks or so. From about week 12 I turned a corner as they say and the pain just faded away Xx
Hi Tracy. Just file and forget about the next scan. It’s 6 month away if your consultants happy you be happy as well.
Bet he did laugh at why you’re using the peg. If you’ve a good back or shelter for hiniess often they will take the spares.
Best wishes
Hazel xx

Hi Hazel thanks, he wants it in about 3 months another pet scan to compare against my 12 week one i suppose, as i didn't have a pet scan pre treatment just ct and mri.
I was thinking a shelter or hospice xx
Well done... enjoy the time between reviews...no point in worrying.
Getting the PEG out is a massive step in our recovery... mentally and in establishing a solid food regime.
I dumped my leftover Ensures into the Foodbank basket in the local ASDA... they have probably been looking at the CCTV footage to ID the nasty culprit whodunnit.

Hi Tracy it’s guys they are being thorough. I had pet cr scan 5 days before treatment started then again week 18 of recovery. My oncologist told me in day if diagnosis that’s the earliest he would scan so I was ok with the wait.
when I got my results we compared scans and he highlighted where my cancer had been and showed me the one after 18 weeks.
please don’t waste time dwelling start planning what you’re going to do. .
Try hospice ours won’t take them which us a shame.
Hugs Hazel.
