Recently prescribed oramorph in 3rd week of 6th week's radiotherapy, but I don't think it's working.
My throat & mouth are very painful.
Anyone any suggestions of an effective analgesia?
I took mine every four hours with paracetamol in between so that I was taking something every two hours. By the end of the fourth week I had long acting morphine twice daily. This took care of background pain pretty well. The bad news was that there was nothing at all that sorted the acute pain of swallowing so I stopped trying to eat and used my NG for food and pain relief.

There are alternatives to long acting morphine... opioid transdermal patches. Fentanyl and Buprenorphine. Do tell your radiographers how you are coping every day. They can arrange pain relief review. You can take a heck of a lot of morphine. I was on 7.5ml per dose at one stage. We don't get addicted but our bodies do acquire a tolerance to the drug so be mindful to come off very slowly when you don't need analgesia any more. If you are on opioids you MUST take laxatives.

Some of us don't metabolise morphine particularly well. Let your RT team know it is not working and they should be able to sort out something better. I was on Oxycodone as oramorph did absolutely nothing for me.
