Biotene Dry Mouth Toothpaste alternatives ?

Has anybody else noticed that UK stock of Biotene dry mouth toothpaste has completely dried up/disappeared recently ? There were a couple of sellers charging rip-off prices on eBay but even they seem to have gone now.

Have kind of gotten used to relying on it, so just wondering if anybody else has suggestions for an alternative to it ?

  • I’ve just bought some on line from Express Chemists.

  • I use Oranurse flavourless toothpaste from Amazon - everything else hurts my mouth.

  • I use Duraphat 5000 toothpaste and Benyzdamine Hydrochloride mouthwash. Both on my GP prescription. Both are working well.

  • I’ve used Duraphat on prescription for 2 years and have just been told they won’t prescribe anymore and I have to buy my own. Have you had your prescription for longer than 2 years?

  • Sue that’s wrong. I had to fight for mine. There is a GP exemption for HNC sufferers.

  • Interesting....

No, just about 9 months now.

Although I can see a time when I no longer need it.

I suppose it depends on your recovery.

I had a partial glossectomy (approx a third), plus the neck incision

The 6 weeks of radiotherapy did it for me, hence the Duraphat.

  • Sue which Essex trust are you under?
Because Duraphat is a dental product, NHS guidelines generally prefer that it is provided by a dentist. However, GPs in Essex can issue repeat prescriptions if specifically requested by your hospital cancer or dental team, particularly if you are unable to access an NHS dentist.

If you had radiotherapy you will need it for life.

  • Hi Sue, I use duraphat and can get it both from dentist and GP with no problems. I'm approaching two years finishing RT end of June but over the two years operation March 24.
