Hi all, I’m a year post RT treatment and still have a very swollen floor of my mouth. The max fax team have never commented on any problems and I wondered if anyone else has this change since operations for tongue cancer. Also I used to be able to touch my nose with my tongue and now can just about lick my lips! A small price to pay I know but want to see if this is the norm for most people?

Hi Sue
Although not the floor of my mouth my tongue on the side that took much of the RT blasting still feels swollen on occasions and I do bite it when it is like that. I measure my recovery of my tongue in a strange, but amusing way. A year ago I could not lick a yoghurt pot lid - I just could not stick my tongue out past my lips without pain. Now I can. It is a silly little measure, but a valid one in how I have and am still improving over time 18 months post treatment.
Hi Sue,
I too had an op on my tongue and head neck dissection and RT. My tongue has never been the same since all this happened. Still feels numb on the op side and swollen. I still do my jaw exercises every day and neck exercises daily. It does help me get movement on my tongue and it feels easier to move around my mouth when I have done them. I feel my cheek swollen at times during the day especially if I have a dry mouth. X
Hi Sue I’m also able to touch my tongue with my nose took around 18 months to be able to do it. Keep doing your exercises I still do them now.
