They got my pathology results back.  Margin is now clear, 38 lymph nodes were removed (only one cancerous one,)  Next is 6 weeks radiotherapy 5 days a week, PEG fitted and then possible 5 weeks chemotherapy, scared stiff!

  • Ah. I escaped the MRI planning. Just a quick CT with contrast.
I suspect most people escape the tattoo as well these days. My treatment was nigh on six years ago.
I lived with it for four years then got something else tattooed over it.
can’t post pictures here but I have some in my blog.

  • Yes I have seen your little tattoo when I read your blog

  • Thanks Dani, I am on the PATHOS Trial, so maybe they don't know yet, because they said that the results were randomised.  I drew one of the short straws and got RT and CT. LOL

Tattoo still in use here...fades out over time

  • Laser body scanning for me.  I was sort of disapointed I did not get a tattoo!

Groups a, b, and c are decided by the mdt what is rabdomised is whether you get chemo on top of the standard RT dose.
It’s great that these trials go on. Perhaps in the future we can look forward to low risk patients getting less RT and no chemo at all.
It’s brill that you are doing it.

Don’t be disappointed. It was a simple dot about 2mm diameter. If you have a hairy chest it would have disappeared altogether Joy

I see, thanks Dani.  At first I believed that groups A, B and C meant A = monitor only, B = Monitor + RT and C = RT+CT.  I don't always take in all what they are telling me at the time. Perhaps I should ask if I could record what they are telling me?

  • Yers...I wish they would explain more

A is monitor as you say. The consultant is happy with margins and I guess found no cancer in the lymph nodes so recommends no further treatment

B is split into standard 6 weeks RT and shorter 5 weeks RT

C is split into standard RT and standard CRT

If you end up in groups B or C then you are randomised

Sadly my cancer was inoperable and I had 6 weeks of standard RT but I avoided chemo as I had no nodal spread.

Yes do it. It seems daft if we are being left in the dark. I don't think they hide anything it's just that we don't know the right questions to ask. My oncologist always worked on what he thought you needed to know. I suspect many do.

BUT if you are in a trial they should give leaflets to explain everything in lay terms
