Well, the head and neck cancer has gone, BUT its travelled to my husbands lungs.  We are reeling and frightened.  Apparently only ten percent of people get secondaries from head and neck cancer..  So now more treatment, an uncertain future and we still have to live with the long term effects from the throat cancer treatment.  cant believe this is happening.

  • Oh I am so sorry to hear that. I hope your husband can get timely treatment. It’s not a cure but there have been some good results with immunotherapy. There are also trials with immuno/ combination treatments. I have a friend in such a trial at the Marsden and a contact who is well on Nivolumab after five years. Keep us updated on his progress if you feel up to it. So fingers crossed for you both.

  • Thanks for your reply Beesuit.  We can only hope that the immunotherapy treatment keeps it at bay, (starts Monday 30/10) and in the meantime live each day fully without panicking about the future.

  • Thanks Hazel for your reply.  At least with the head and neck cancer we hoped for a good outcome.  This is even more frightening.  And my poor hubby, having to go through the first treatment was bad enough.  As I said to Beesuit, we can only live one day at a time and make the most of things as and when we can. He starts immunotherapy next Monday.

  • Everythjng crossed for immunotherapy.Yes live each day as it comes it’s the right attitude to have.cancers so cruel. Hugs Hazel x

  • So very sorry to read this news, I do hope you both continue strong, a day at a time, thoughts are with you both x

  • He will be on Pembrolizumab

  • So sorry to read your post. This is not the news anyone wants. In my case I thought I was done with cancer, 5 years clear in 2019, get on with retirement, hurray! Then the pandemic. Then a new tongue tumour last year, so surgery for that. CT scan identified lung tumour too, so major surgery to remove half my lung. I felt totally wrecked, and in a lot of pain. Still, I slowly got over it, built up my strength again, only to be diagnosed earlier this year with throat cancer, so had laser surgery to remove that. As far as my consultants know, I am currently cancer free, but I have some osteoradionecrosis in my mouth which isn’t great. Just living each day as best I can, trying to eat enough, which I find difficult, but thankful that each time the cancer was caught early and was treatable.  You and your husband will be stronger than you ever thought possible, good luck on the next stage of your journey.
