Hi Everyone,
Meant to add this to my first post earlier!!
Those of us who had back of tongue cancer treatment,my question is ,does it leave scar tissue in the areas that were subjected to RT like the throat and tongue ? If so can this sometimes feel as though it's tightening up ,like a stiff feeling in back of tongue and throat ? I feel this from time to time ,and it can last a few days . ?
Yes for me it did. I have a band of white scar tissue running the length of my palatoglossal arch on the treatment side usually it causes me no problems but sometimes it gets really tight and painful… usually when I forget my trismus exercises

Ok sorry.
scar tissue runs from the top of my soft palate to the back of my tongue. A thin white band.
Trismus is the inability to open your mouth the prescribed width which is your first three fingers of your non dominant hand( I’m right handed, so my left) held between your teeth.
Trismus to some degree is common after throat RT which is what we get exercises to open our mouths as wide as we can. I still do mine

Hi Like Dani I’ve the white line mines where my tonsil was and religiously every day I do my jaw and swallow exercises. You should have been given them prior to treatment. I do mine without realising it’s as natural as brushing my teeth now.
the swallow is do a hard swallow and the jar ones open mouth as wide as you can without ur being painful . As Dani says 3 fingers should fit vertically
