Sore throat

Morning

I've had an awful night sleep, well no sleep really as I've been coughing my head off so much that my throat feels raw and the phlegm had blood in it a few times during the night. I've had a look around and it looks like something that has happened to a few after RT. Any ideas on how I can sooth it and maybe how to stop coughing for a while?  I hate this bl00dy treatment!!

Thanks Dee

  • Hi Dee. Have you Difflam left over from treatment? If you can gargle with that it should help a lot.
Honey is good too ( forget the sugar in it for now, just have a rinse and spit afterwards) Proper honey ( the sort my bees produce)  is very healing but is full of enzymes and can be a bit stingy so you could start off with cheap supermarket “honey”. I wouldn’t bother with Manuka.

If you like you could pm me your address and I’ll  send you a jar of this summer’s honey which is light and gentle. Free of course.
I got into the habit of having some cooked boiled water by the bedside and managed to sip in my sleep … so to speak.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Dani

I do have Difflam, it stings like hell but I'll dilute it with some water. I gargle with Caphosol and that seems to have settled it and managed to sleep for a couple of hours. I have some home made honey in the cupboard that I never got round to using so will give that a go too. Do I just take a  spoonful swill and spit or should I dilute with water?

Tonsil cancer treatment....finished chemoradio 30 rounds of Radiotherapy and 4 of cisplatin chemo start of June.

After surgery for another health issue for which I was intubated I ended up with throat pain due to intubation damage...contacted my GP who prescribed Difflam spray...it certainly helps.

Spoonful and swallow all of it slowly.
rinse your mouth out a few minutes later.
PS if the honey has set take the lid off and pop it into the microwave for 30seconds

  • Hi! I finished RT (6 weeks daily & Chemo x 5 Cisplatin) 4 weeks ago. My throat felt like gravel initially & was also plagued with a cough upon trying to sleep at night. I now have a humidifier in the bedroom & spray Mucosamin on my throat last thing. For me, this has helped a lot & no longer a serious problem.

Hoping you find a solution that suits you personally… Interrupted sleep is no fun!
Good luck! Fingers crossedFingers crossedFingers crossedPs. If Beesuit reads this - ( sorry l find this site a bit of a pain to navigate) your signposted article on post treatment period was a really fantastic read - all 9 pages. Helped me greatly. Sincere thanks!

  • Glad it helped… all 9 pages Wink

Mucosamin wasn’t around when I was treated but I see The Swallows put it in their support boxes.
