Hi folks. Thought I'd share an update. Unfortunately after the the punctured lung and COVID which left me in hospital for a week, I am now unable to have a general anaesthetic for the TORS to go ahead. This was scheduled for next week to find my primary cancer. I also have a very small adenocarcinoma in my left lung which is slow growing at the moment.
This means that I will be having radical treatment of 3 cisplatin with 35 radiotherapy at St James in Leeds. They have said my side effects will be worse than usual. The treatment will start in about 3 weeks. The big issue now is that I now have exposed jaw bone in a large part of my mouth and the team don't know why. It could be a result of trauma during biopsies or all the infections I have had since. I know the radiotherapy is going to make it much worse.I am living in pain and finding it very difficult to eat and drink. Even talking hurts sometimes. My question is, can they give me something to numb my mouth so I can at least enjoy my food again for a while? On a more positive note, we had an offer accepted on our first home together yesterday. Thanks, Jen x
Hi Jen. Yes ask your team about something for the pain. I know you can get mouthwashes with local anaesthetic as well as the Oxetecaine we are given when we start treatment.
Leeds is a major cancer centre so I’m sure they will look after you. It’s where Hazel was treated.
You are in for a rough ride but you’ve had that already. Don’t be too soul destroyed. It’s doable.
A day at a time
I had a patch if necrotic bone after my second biopsy where they had yanked my mouth open with hard sharp instruments but it was only a small patch. The bone came away and the gum healed.
Really good news about the house
Just hang on Jen
