Hi all, I just thought I would update you as everyone has been extremely helpful putting my mind at ease in this new journey we find ourself in.
So after hubby's tonsillectomy, 6 days later being admitted in hospital with a bleedout and infection, he spent 2 days in on IV antibiotics and stronger painkillers, then home feeling much better.
Today we had a meeting with his consultant and care team, and what an amazing team they are. Good news that they managed to remove the cancer from his tonsil and hasn't spread to his tongue which we feared, only his lymph node in his neck where we first found the lump in July.
Appointment on the 9th Nov to do the mask fitting, then radiotherapy and chemotherapy for 6 weeks, once the mask is ready which take 3/4 weeks. The consultant seemed extremely positive that he will make a full recovery after treatment.
I explained to the care team that I came across this group and they couldn't speak more highly of it and thanked you all for advising me to leave Google well alone, giving me great support and allowing me to hear your stories.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks again!

It’s interesting that there are such different practices at different practices! My gp was always much easier to get hold of and was happy to prescribe MST, Citilopram and sleeping pills without reference to my hospital team.
Whatever Duskie, you need to seek help from somewhere. Were you allocated a district nurse? I was, and even though I never properly used her it was good to know she’d be there 24/7 if any crisis arose.
Hi Mark. I did get MST from my GP but only after they got the prescription from the hospital. As for a district nurse....what luxury. I was left to my own devices. As you say...resources are different. Hope you are good and that you had an excellent Christmas

Actually, I’m having Christmas Day today Dani and will be spending all afternoon preparing a mega dinner - the Full Monty, so to speak. The family arrived last night, gifts are still under the tree and carols are playing gently in the background as I type.
Last Christmas Day I had just finished Week 5 of treatment but did manage to force down a Christmas dinner of sorts which tasted like cardboard and took an age to get through! I promised myself that if I was still here next Christmas I’d push the boat out, and I intend to do so. I’m even parking up the wagon for a few days and imbibing in fine wine and beer!
I hope yours has been good.
Happy Christmas All!
Hi can’t add anything to what the others have said apart from make sure he’s getting enough liquids on as well Aim for 2-3?litres a day via peg vis fine sipping orally bad well will help his dry mouth. You’ve hit the hard times now it does get better. But vital to get pain medication sorted today or at least on radar

Aw. I love Cooper. We had a border collie for 14 years. Loved her to pieces!
Thanks EVERYONE!!
He's at the hospital now for chemo and radio, he is going to speak with his team with all your advice in hand, hopefully they up his meds and sort constipation out. I now realise we need to make use of our team and stop suffering in silence.
Enjoy your Christmas day Markel, you deserve it!
Thanks for all your advice guys, it really has helped again!
Much love
Duskie!
Thanks Duskie. Glad he’s at the hospital today. That makes things a little easier. But please make sure you don’t leave until they’ve addressed his issues, even if you have to dig in your heels. Wishing you all all the best. M
