Hi all, I just thought I would update you as everyone has been extremely helpful putting my mind at ease in this new journey we find ourself in.
So after hubby's tonsillectomy, 6 days later being admitted in hospital with a bleedout and infection, he spent 2 days in on IV antibiotics and stronger painkillers, then home feeling much better.
Today we had a meeting with his consultant and care team, and what an amazing team they are. Good news that they managed to remove the cancer from his tonsil and hasn't spread to his tongue which we feared, only his lymph node in his neck where we first found the lump in July.
Appointment on the 9th Nov to do the mask fitting, then radiotherapy and chemotherapy for 6 weeks, once the mask is ready which take 3/4 weeks. The consultant seemed extremely positive that he will make a full recovery after treatment.
I explained to the care team that I came across this group and they couldn't speak more highly of it and thanked you all for advising me to leave Google well alone, giving me great support and allowing me to hear your stories.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks again!

Great news Duskie! It’s an incredibly anxious time waiting for the results of the surgery, but now you know the score spread-wise you can really concentrate on the next phase, which is a lot more drawn out. If there’s one piece of advice I’d give to someone pre chemoradiation therapy it’s get and keep as fit as you can beforehand. A routine of daily exercise (eg good walks) will likely help him cope better with his coming journey. Wishing you both the very best, M
Hi Duskie, I'm pleased that he has recovered from what must have been a very frightening episode. The support teams and clinicians are brilliant. I can't speak too highly of mine. At every step they cared for me and reassured me I was on track. Nearly three years later they continue that support. It's good too that they keep in touch with groups like this. I am a member of a couple more on social media and this one is by far the best. It is policed pretty rigorously so that we don't get medical opinion and advice which we aren't qualified to do but instead share experience which is much more valuable. It sounds like you have a great team too,
I can add one other bit of advice to Mark's
Do as you're told and don't be brave. There is no earthly reason to tough it out.....unless I guess some folk need to as a way of preserving some control.
It's a tough treatment but doable.
The mask making is a doddle. It takes half an hour or so and the waiting time after is down to the computer planning of the treatment. Get the technicians to cut eyeholes in the mask. It vastly reduces claustrophobia....
Best of luck and come back for help as you both need it.

That's great news. I've found this group so helpful. My son had surgery for mouth and jaw cancer and just finished his chemo and radiotherapy treatments. However he was back in hospital for IV fluids due to reaction to the chemo. He's had a few other issues, but is on the way to recovery (fingers crossed). I don't go on Google, but come on here to voice my concerns and always get lovely feedback. Hope your husband makes a full recovery. It's very hard to watch someone you love go through this, but all we can do is be there for them and offer any help or encouragement we can.
Take care

Hi Duskie
That's great news. It's so reassuring when you have confidence in your team.
I found having the mask made a fascinating process. Do make sure though that it is comfortable for your husband. Any adjustments can be made easily at the preparation stage.
All the best.

Thanks MarkEL, it was definitely extremely anxious waiting for the the results. I can only imagine how drawn out the next stage is going to be but he's feeling more positive now which has given him real fight since his results. I shall pass on all your advice. You've been a great help as always.
Best wishes!
Macfarlane, this group really is extremely helpful, I've felt a sense of relief from everyone's advise and reading people's blogs that have been or going through similar. Well done for staying off Google, best advise EVER.
Thanks for your kind words sending positive vibes to you and your son, I hope he makes a full recovery, he's on the right path. Look after yourself throughout all this too, hard I know but they need us.
All the best x
