Hi
Please could anyone tell me ..if you have to have a feeding tube after surgery, can you be discharged with it in? Thanks
Julie x
Yes. There are basically two kinds. A PEG which goes straight into your stomach and a Nasogastric which goes up your nose and down your oesophagus into your stomach

You’re very welcome. Don’t stress about it. Lots of people have them to manage food intake when radiotherapy makes it impossible to eat. Not many folk have one after surgery as post op pain is much more transient and easy to control. It does of course depend on what sort of surgery.

Thankyou. Your replies are so helpful Hazel. I haven't had my appointment yet..its tomorrow and my mind has started working overtime about if its spread anywhere else in my body. Such a horrible time isn't it ?

Metastasis past the lymph nodes is rare. Hold that thought xx
When is your appointment tomorrow?

Hi Julie please don’t stress it’s very rare for oral cancers to spread beyond lymph nodes. Mine had spread to several lymph nodes but 35 radiotherapy sessions and 2 chemo got rid of it. Your mind will be all over but take heart from us lot whi are still here alive and kicking. I went to my own funeral in my nightmares but once treatment plan in place and I key my wonderful oncologist. Yes 2 words I never thought would pass my lips I got head in gear and 3 years after still here.
If you need feeding tube that’s nothing to stress about it serves it’s purpose.
Hazel xx come back snd tell us how you got on when you’re ready.
