Hi All, update for tim(wanna play guitar) diagnosis Tonsillar cancer (right) HPV +16 T2N1M0 Last year. Completed treatment 5/3/21 with 6 x Chemo. Cisplatin plus 30 rads.
I’m Week 16 post treatment.
Well, a week of non movement for me this week apart from being given a date for Pet/CT scan results ( July 9)
Its frustrating because you need Mother Nature to sort you out! But, as we all know the treatment we get is far from natural. My Consultant did say I’m still healing - and that needs energy.
Anyway, here’s my resume:
FATIGUE: Only one event this week after 8Km walk(yes 8!) I was absolutely knackered the following day and slept for 7 hours. So that’s good.
MIND: I’ve thought about my plight so often that I tell myself to shut up and get on with the life I have. It can dominate your whole existence if you let it. My go to mantra is get busy with as many everyday things as you can manage or else it will send you round the bend, especially waiting for results.
TASTE: Unfortunately, I’ve gone in reverse this week with virtually nil taste apart from strong coffee. I still have hunger thankfully.
NEUROPATHY: Nil change here, it tingles last thing at night and is more of an annoyance than a handicap.
MOUTH: Still have a burning tongue with soreness inside of lips. Regular Salt/Bicarbonate rinses help but this is a debilitating side effect.
XEROSTOMIA: (dry Mouth) This is the same now for the last 3/4 weeks and does get me down. I know it’s early days at almost 4 months. I sought some treatment at an Acupuncturist who had experience of this condition. He sounded very knowledgeable and said I need to make an appointment after 6 months post treatment to get the best benefit. Has anyone out there had Acupuncture to help dry mouth which has proved successful?
LYMPHODEMA: The only thing that has improved this week. The Consultant has referred me to the Lymphodema Clinic in the meantime, but I’ve had success with the massage techniques.
Well folks, thats me for this week. As I’ve said not a great deal of improvement frustratingly. As always, comments, observations or rally calls are most welcome.
Have a peaceful healthy week. Best wishes. Tim

Hi Hazel, Thanks for coming back. You’re right I am eating a lot of sweet things to try and get some taste. e.g. lots of sugar in tea/coffee. Loads of honey on cereal and bowls of fruit. The Fluconazole nailed the thrush, but I do have a spare dose just in case. I must admit I’ve let my water intake to go low. I’ll have to redouble my efforts and hope the taste starts up again. Thank you for the rally call as it really helps from someone whose got the t-shirt and video etc.
Best wishes. Tim. Hope you are excellent. Tim XX
Hi Mark. Yes it’s one step forward two back sometimes. To tell you the truth life was a complete turn around and a revelation that I could be anywhere near where I used to be around nine months after treatment ended. I’ve said this before but I’ll say again. My consultant when we went through my treatment consent form said the cancer would take a year out of my life and he was spot on.
Acupuncture worked for me and I still get top ups

I started at a year because it took me a longer time to find a practitioner who knew the protocol.
Ive mentioned on another thread that there is evidence that it’s best started as early as you can, even during treatment

Hi Dani, good to hear from you! Your shared personal journey is not only uplifting but very reassuring (thank you). I’ll revisit “Acupuncture” and purveyors there of, as it seems most people have benefited from it.
Have a great week. Best wishes. Tim xx
You keep going Tim
Your updates are riveting and it so good to see you making those forward steps
