Hello I am new to the group and wanted to say hello. I am at the very beginning of this journey. My son (37 with 2 toddlers) has anterior maxillary cancer -in the top gum and nostril. He has had his biopsy and scans next week. The professionals haven’t given him one word of encouragement. We are obviously devastated and was hoping for some helpful positivity from someone
Thanks in advance
Rouge
Hi, really sorry and disappointed to hear your experience - I guess we all have differing experiences. Firstly you are on the place where you will get help and support - although I’m further into my journey, I have only recently joined the macmillon forum on here.
in my own cancer journey, after finally getting to see consultant for my first appt after a referral, it all happened within 5 minutes of the start of the examination - from initial physical examination feel of my throat (I have tongue/throat cancer), I had a endoscopy /X-ray / biopsy all booked and done on the day with further mri and ct scans booked.
your concerns are no doubt the waiting and not knowing - it’s the same we all suffer that anxiety- I wasn’t given any encouragement until I had a review with the oncologist, it was at this point they knew more and could give me that encouragement you seek - stay positive as much as you can and if you have real niggling, contact the macmillon help line .
wish you the best - take care

Hi Rouge. Sorry you’ve found yourself on her on behalf of your son. A cancer diagnosis is scary at the best of times. It’s not good enough that your son’s team aren’t being pro active.
My cancer was tonsil and lymph nodes so can’t offer advise on your sons. But head and neck cancers do respond extremely well to treatment. If you look in the search bar at the top and type maxillary cancer it should bring some replies and hopr fully someone roll pop on. I’ve just looked and there’s a few in there.
when he’s his treatment plan we can help with specifics. Try tj keto off dr google you’ll scare yourself even more info on there is often unregulated.

Hi Rouge welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you have had this response from the medical team, every little bit of encouragement helps at this stage. Be reassured that head and neck cancers are curable, and the treatment does give very high cure rates, up to 90%. I'm sure you will get lots of support on here as we are all here to help. Any questions or worries just ask someone will always answer if they can.
Ray.
