Hi there my name is Janet,
I have been a full time carer for my husband for 12 years.but now I have had some devastating news that my husband cancer is terminal and he has been given 6 months to live.
I don't know how much more of this I can take it's hard enough being a full time carer and now this.
I really really didn't expect this at all I thought they could have helped him but nothing they can do.
I was wondering if anyone has been in this situation?
I have the macmillan nurse coming round on Tuesday the 1st of next month, but I really would like any advice anyone can give me.
Many thanks everyone.
Hi Janet
That's the terrible news that all of us dread to hear.
Can you involve your GP straight away. They should liaise with your Macmillan nurse regarding palliative care and latterly whether you are considering hospice care or Hospice-at-Home. These are practicalities that need consideration and I know how hard it must be. My heart goes out to you. There is plenty of support available and you must look after yourself too.
As for this community you could look at the carers group CARERS
And there is also a group for supporting people with incurable cancer HERE
If you need to talk to somebody at any time the macmillan line is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm. 0808 808 00 00
If you look HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page there is an option for Web Chat too
The Swallows Head and Neck charity operates a helpline that is manned by Chris Curtis or his wife 24 hours a day 07504 725 059
It's a horrid place to be. I hope you can both find some answers and some peace to be able to enjoy what time your husband does have
Best wishes
Dani
