Hi there

I've been diagnosed with HPV positive SCC and I'm starting chemo-radiotherapy in a week's time.

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, as I struggled to get an ENT referral, but once I managed it, the team have been amazing.

I've had chemo before  - but radiotherapy is a whole new, and slightly scary, world!

I've found this forum super helpful already, especially discussions about recovery.

  • Hi Polly,

Mine is/was tonsil. Still two more zaps to go.

It seems everyone reacts differently to treatment so what I've experienced is

The radiotherapy staff (I'm at Mount Vernon) are amazing and so helpful. The radiotherapy doesn't hurt in the slightest and when I have my shell on I imagine I'm floating on a lilo just off a beautiful white sandy beach. The shell is only my sunhat on my face to keep the sun off.

You will find your own way to count down the time.

Nearer the end my neck is red and itchy but not all the time, only sometimes.

My throat isn't so sore that I can't swallow liquids.

The whole thing is tough but we can do it.

    Good luck on your journey.
