With two more zaps to go I am struggling to drink enough let alone eat. I am left with only my front eight teeth at the top and bottom so all enjoyment of eating has gone.
Since my second and last chemo the thought of eating is stressing me out. I will do anything except sit and eat. Any excuse.
Things started badly when on day two of treatment strawberries tasted so bad.
Things smell so bad, I can't taste sweet even in sugar and savoury smell, well it makes me feel sick.
I tried prawns and although I could force them down, the mess it left in my mouth made me feel sick. So I thought Id chop some up and have it in a scrambled egg. I couldn't get through half of it. I was sitting rocking on my chair and couldn't get another mouthful in.
I am told Im dehydrated which isn't a surprise to me.
I can drink milk and have an ensure a day but even that takes me time to consume a mouthful at a time.
My swallowing in the daytime isn't too painful. Im sure it is a mental thing but have no idea how to address it.
I am determined not to use the rig for feeding. Actually the dietician isn't letting me. :)
I have advice about what to try and eat and drink but I just don't want to try anything. I wish people would stop talking about food to me.
I can't see how counciling can help.
I'm at a total loss.
Hi I feel your pain, it was exactly the same for me. What worked was blending food and just chucking it down with water. Also I had Fortisips vanilla and neutral, the flavoured ones hurt my mouth. Ready Brek was good, also soups all blended. It does get better sending a hug x
I feel for you truly I do, I had all my bottom teeth removed due to mouth cancer, so I’m limited to such things as cottage pie and lots of gravy. Although the biggest impact is on my mental health and I just don’t know where to turn to I’ve also developed heavy nose bleeds. With all this going on I just don’t want to be here anymore
Yes ... I was in the same place for months...I thought that I would never enjoy food again...Taste and appetite will return ...it just takes a little time...I had to challenge myself every day with different foods and drinks...Guinness Alcohol Free was my first little success.

I'm at a total loss.
Use your tube. It’s your cancer not the dieticians. The treatment is awful enough without torturing yourself surely ?

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Most of us will relate to your situation...The treatment is difficult, very difficult, I had days where I thought I'd suffered enough but found the strength to fight on...CRT treatment is harsh but there is light at the end of the tunnel...the treatment will take about a year out of a normal lifestyle then things will improve...keep posting here ...great bunch who have all been through the cancer mill...some more than once.
Michael
HI ,i can relate to what you are going through when my treatment started everything tasted weird sort of metallic but after 2 weeks this was no longer a problem as i could not swallow at all, this went on for 9 weeks my first breakthrough was on my birthday i was determined to have a cup of tea and it was easier than expected i also managed a tin of soup and from there things rapidly got better ,I still struggle with some things such as bread and meat and spicy food .But im ok my RIG was a life saver so if you have a feeding tube use it . You will get there things will get easier .Good luck
