I've just been diagnosed with secondary cancer in a neck node but they can't find the primary source. I've had CT, MRI and a PET scan but they still can't find it. The Drs think its in the throat and I am booked in for exploratory surgery the week after next for them to take biopsies. The plan is that if they can't find the primary site that I will more broad targeted radiotherapy on my throat. I'm very worried about this approach and how severe the post period and recovery will be. Anyone who has had the same treatment that can give me any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Jeremy so sorry you are going through this, I had the same hpv t1nomo t2n1mo, with no primary. I had 2 chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I am 7 months post treatment. I can't lie to you treatment and recovery is rough but you do get through it.
And this is a great group who will give important info and support. Do you have a Maggies near you?
Hi Jeremy
did you have a chance to look at Peter’s profile?
Watch and wait is not for everyone some of us can’t wait to get rid of everything but others are less risk averse
I was never in that position so can only direct you to others who have. I’m sure Peter will be along soon to help out
He had a neck dissection to remove the cancer in his neck? Has that been mentioned?

Hi
Yes I have just read it, what a journey but it give me hope and an insight. I have asked about removing the neck node but was told that it is responsive to the therapy, but don't know what that is. I was just shocked at the possibility of broad RT and the damage it causes if they can't pinpoint the source accurately.

I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer over 3 years ago, the first biopsy was inconclusive, called back for a second one which pinpointed the left tonsil and neck node(s)...Chemoradiotherapy was the route for me...no surgery... pretty harsh treatment but very effective... recovery takes time and patience...
Good luck.
Michael
