Neck Pain and Lump, waiting for dr

Hello-I am hoping someone can tell me if this sounds like your path to being diagnosed. Last week I had a really painful shoulder and neck area, presumably from how I slept. It’s eased up, but as I was rubbing my neck, I found a lump on the left side, lower area, towards the side/back. It’s very tender and the whole area feels like pinching. I am awaiting an appointment but I am very concerned this is a type of head/neck cancer. I have not been sick. Just some seasonal allergies-sneezing and ear aches that feel full. I haven’t read that ear pain is also a symptom along with neck lump. Does this sound similar to your symptoms and what should I push the Dr for?

  • Hello, the 'come back in 2 weeks' seems a going time line, I guess if we had gone to our GP we probably would have been told the same, I guess having gone to the walk-in centre straight away and raised our concerns, saved us (in my opinion) valuable time,we gone away for a few days while waiting for referral. Maybe if you can,do the same,or keep yourself busy to take your mind of?  It's easy said then done, but it can still be nothing in your case. Keep us updated. Till then fingers crossed.  Mel x

  • 2 weeks will not make much difference, the lump may disappear, if not you will probably be fast tracked to ENT, best option for the patient in most cases, if not all.

Try to keep occupied, and try to stay off Dr Google.

  • I do know my Dr said it was a soft and palpable lymph node that moved easily. Is that relevant?

  • Good morning, at our walk-in centre we got told a similar 'verdict', the way it felt to the touch and size, we got told not to worry too much, easy said then done, but we got the referral straight away, 'just to be sure', turned out we got the diagnosis no-one wants.

  • Just a standard reply, they cannot really give an informed opinion until a biopsy is performed
