Hello-I am hoping someone can tell me if this sounds like your path to being diagnosed. Last week I had a really painful shoulder and neck area, presumably from how I slept. It’s eased up, but as I was rubbing my neck, I found a lump on the left side, lower area, towards the side/back. It’s very tender and the whole area feels like pinching. I am awaiting an appointment but I am very concerned this is a type of head/neck cancer. I have not been sick. Just some seasonal allergies-sneezing and ear aches that feel full. I haven’t read that ear pain is also a symptom along with neck lump. Does this sound similar to your symptoms and what should I push the Dr for?
Hello, its hard to tell from what you say if the lump is similar to the one I had. Mine was a lump in my lymph node on my neck, it wasnt painful. A few weeks earlier I had extreme ear ache and I noticed a slight problem with swallowing.
You should call the Dr and get an appointment - I got in straight away when I described my symptoms. He took a look and put me on a fast track (2 weeks max) appointment to see an ENT specialist and it went from there.
Im not an expert because I have had a tumour at the back of my tongue, I only know what I had, everyone is different - but worth getting it checked out.
I hope this hasn't made you more anxious, but it would remiss of me not to advise you to see your Dr.
Rachel
All neck lumps should be investigated so just ring your doctor again and actually tell them that you want to be checked for throat cancer. That should speed things up. Having said that pain isn’t usually a feature of cancer in a lymph node. Best get checked though.

Thank you—I appreciate your response. I babe had ear pain off and on for a few months now. I had some fluid on there a few months ago and I just assumed it was allergies. No issues with swallowing at the time.
Thanks, I will. My whole neck area is swollen today and very tender.
Hi always scared1234, welcome to the group, hopefully you won't have to stay. What you have described could be lots of things apart from cancer, however like the others have said best to get it checked out. Go to your GP and tell him or her of your worries, and insist on a referral. If you need us we are all happy help with any questions you have.
Ray.
Hello there, I feel for you. My husband was in a similar situation. After a brief cold he noticed a lump starting to grow on the left side of the neck. We went to our local walk-in centre after a few days for investigation.Got told the old 'it might be nothing' and got a referral to ENT. In within 2wks we got the appointment, thank you NHS, got the dreaded diagnosis no one wants to hear. The ball got rolling rather quick from there. Now after a long treatment and cruel recovery,he's on the mend. As it has been mentioned, every lump needs to get check out. Fingers crossed for you. Hugs Mel x
Thank you for taking the time to respond. Did he have any pain or tenderness or swelling with his lump?
Good evening, no he didn't have any pain or anything,he just turned up one morning at my place of work, showing me his lump on his neck, that out of the blue appared, told my boss I needed to leave to support my husband. As I mentioned,at the walk-in centre we got the 'it might be nothing ',because the way it felt and by the size it was.Got the referral and eventual got the diagnosis no-one wants to hear. Good thing that I was adamant, he first didn't wanted to go.
So sorry you have had to deal with this! I did go to the Dr and she said that I have a 1x2 cm swollen lymph node that is soft and palpable. She said if it’s not better in 2 weeks to come back. That’s really hard for me to grasp!
