Hi such a beautiful day today, hope you are all enjoying the weather. I'm just wondering if anyone can enlighten me if they had this problem too or know anything about it. I have had white patch round my scar area last week . Very white when I wake up then fades a bit throughout the day. Over the past few weeks my mouth has been extremely dry, moreso than previous. I find myself using the sprays, gels , chewing gum a lot more. I don't know what my tongue is supposed to feel like anymore since I had my operation two years ago. The scar site feels lumpy, especially in the am . Could this be fibrosis. My tongue has never been the same same RT and the operation so I really don't know what's normal anymore. Just obviously worried incase it could be a recurrence. I have my two month apt next Wednesday. So any advice welcome xx
Hi Jg123, Radiotherapy the gift that just keeps giving. It does all kinds of things to us. Hopefully what you have described will clear up on its own. If you have a review coming up shortly get them to have a look then, if not give your team a call, hopefully they will be able to put your mind a rest.
Ray.
Good evening JG123, i have not had tongue cancer, but have had other cancers in the head and neck area, i dont think the area ever returns to normal after an operation or treatment, it could be scar tissue that gives the lumpy feeling. If you are concerned, then do as Ray said and see if you can get an earlier appointment. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, I finished my treatment for tongue cancer/RT 1 and a half years ago and still worry that my tongue will never feel normal. Some days my speech is impaired with a lisp and I still can’t eat very much. As others on here have said, chicken is one of the worst meats and my favs are lasagne and anything creamy or with sauce except curry or chilli unfortunately. Wine is too sharp but I can drink pina coladas or Malibu and pineapple. Before RT I loved a Bacardi and coke which is also too sharp for my tongue now.
Early morning is the worst though with no saliva and my neck, jaw and tongue are always stiff and uncomfortable until I have a cup of tea and do a few exercises to release the stiffness xx

Hi Sue - have you heard of the Aquax2 trials for dry mouth - I started in January but the hospital think I have had a placebo - but the results seem promising!!
