Hello all, Husband is on last two days of treatment but is hospitalised due to severe side effects from RT or Chemo. His neck is very badly burned but the Flamigel which he has used successfully until this week. Hospital say they have no alternatives. Any suggestions please?

  • Hi Bridget, than you so much for sharing your experience about radiation burns. What a dreadful experience it was for you and I am glad you got relief from your dressing. My husband is still in hospital having been admitted a week ago with an infection which is a side effect of radiation. They are treating his horrendous wounds with whatever they have but they won’t let him have any dressing at all. It is an unbelievably bad reaction to a procedure meant to cure him. I’m speechless but glad he is still with me after all he has been through.

    kind regards

  • Oh my goodness Lynda, the poor man - and you too, it’s awfully tough for loved ones.

I’m sorry to hear he has an infection. My burns got infected, so I was put on strong antibiotics,(which in turn caused more side-effects!), but at least I didn’t need to be hospitalised like your husband. When I was speaking to my Cancer Nurses on the phone, they were saying that they didn’t advocate putting any dressing on the burns. There was no way I could have gone without a dressing, as I was literally sticking to the pillowcase because of the pus coming out of the burn area!

Are the burns improving? If not, maybe it might be worth you mentioning Jelonet to the hospital? It really is wondrous stuff.

I’ll be thinking about you and your husband, I really hope that he recovers soon. This is a tough journey, but some have it tougher than most. Once he’s over this hurdle, I’m sure that things will settle down and he can start to feel more like himself.

  • Thanks again Bridget, the Dr says the burns are showing some improvement thank goodness but he is still experiencing a lot of pain.He can’t speak, he struggles to text because he is muddled with all the meds he is taking. I’ll mention the Jelonet on my visit today. Take care

  • That’s good that they’re improving, maybe he’ll be fine without the Jelonet but worth a mention I think.
It’s awful when you’re in this sort of phase, it feels as if it’s going on forever, but it won’t do, you’ll both get through it. Lots of love x
