  • Flamazine one RT has finished.
Sorry to hear he’s that bad.
If his neck is oozing ask for Polymem bandage

  • Hi there,, so sorry to hear about your husband struggling. Why is he hospitalised? What side effects is he struggling with the most? My husband finished his treatment on New Years Eve last year,(feels like a life time ago  now) His neck was badly burned, skin broken and wounds leaking. However, flamigel and the non adhesive PolyMem neck wrap  worked well together and gradually his neck started to heal.It did take a few weeks, but we got there, there is however a noticable scar on the left side now. Be patient with the wounds,jf they are as bad as my husbands were, you need to give it time. Please persevere, carry on using the flamigel and those neck wraps. All the best, hugs, fellow wife Mel

  • Thanks Dani, I’ll tell him.

  • Hi Mel, this is the fourth time he has been hospitalised in six weeks. He has been falling due to dizziness, his electrolytes and Magnesium levels are very low and his white blood cells have been badly affected  by the chemo so he won’t be having the sixth round. His pain levels have been very badly managed due to miscommunication between medical staff. I have spoken to the consultant this afternoon. He said there are no indications at this point that the treatment has not worked. He has been put on antibiotics for his neck and they are seeking advice from Radiotherapy about alternative lotion. He will be hospitalised until he is fully fit, probably by end of next week. Thank you for your advice and support.

  • Hi Topsymum.

Sorry to hear your husband's having a tough time and here's hoping he improves asap.

H's Radiographers gave me two tubes of Flamigel RT and I squeezed every last drop out as it's around £30 per tube.  Luckily for us it did the job but he did get burns on the right side of his neck.  When they scabbed over I didn't pick and let the largish crusts fall off by themselves.  Patience was the key for us.

However, I guess H got off lightly compared to others.

With your husband being an inpatient the nurses will be on top of it and give him pain relief.

I know every knock back is worrying but fingers crossed for you both that it's resolved soon.

    Good luck.

    Gill xx

Another thing to understand is that pain can cause blood pressure to drop.

  • Thanks Gill, unfortunately I started to feel that the effects of the care he has received during this time have been worse than the actual treatment. Whatever, one more RT to go and I am happy he is under the supervision of the oncologist now he is in hospital for the duration. We will get there.

    • Hi Lynda, poor guy,six rounds of CT, that is alot to take for any body, was he on Cisplatin by any chance? My husband had only to cope with two,and it was painful to watch him go through that . It's a shame that his pain didn't get delt with as it should have, that would have made a difference, The treatment has a very high success rate, but the road to recovery is cruel,as we got told straight away by our medical team.Hopefully once his bloods and bloodpressure etc show improvement,he can then carry on recovering at home, but do push for plenty of flamigel and the PolyMem wraps. We are in the Merseyside area, and got treated at the Liverpool Clatterbridge Centre, we couldn't fault them at all.All of the departments from speech therapist, nutritionist to head and neck nurses.Keep un touch and let us know about your hubbies progress. There is always some here with tips and advise. Big hugs Mel x
  • Hi Mel, following the Oncologist visit his pain relief  was finally ramped up and he is sleeping most of the time. Initially he was prescribed paracetamol which didn’t touch the pain. Just hoping we get through the next week without any more crises. Thanks for you good wishes.
