Radiotherapy creams to use for re-irradiation in the same area

Hello

My husband is facing radiotherapy in the same area, after his initial treatment 18 years ago. This starts on 3 March.

The skin remains fragile from earlier treatment so we're keen to see what we can do to avoid the worst aspects of radiotherapy burn.

The hospital is saying they prescribe Mediderm post treatment. to protect the skin, then Flaminal gel if the skin breaks down.

Additionally, I'm aware of other options below.

Radiaderm

Jalosome

Flamigel

Keen to know your experience of using these products, following intensive radiotherapy or re-irradiation.

Thank you!

  • Hi

    Welcome to our little Community.

I haven't come across anybody here who has had RT to the same area but hopefully somebody might spot your post.

I would imagine your husband's team must be well aware of the complications so I hope they keep on top of them

I can say that for me Aloe Vera Gel applied liberally to the skin straight after RT stopped me from burning.

I know some people here did have a bad skin breakdown and were prescribed Polymem bandages

Do let us know how he gets on and fingers crossed he isn't too badly affected

  • Hi Haydon , my hubby was prescribed epaderm and this worked well for him and 2 ladies i work with also used this during radio therapy and said this was a god send. Wishing you all the best xx

  • Hello there,  my husband has been given flamigel straight from the start of his RT, also he was still having dome degrees of radiation burns, this gel still did it's job, in addition to that, he's also been given Non adhesive neck roll dressings to protect the wounds, 6wks after treatment the burns are nearly gone,he's also using Flaminal forte, till the rest of the wound on the left side of the neck is completely healed.Had to buy these products from Amazon in the beginning,as these were difficult to get on prescription. But both of these products worked well for my hubby.

  • Hi Haydon, I used Flamigel RT..  three times a day......skin turned extremely dark as expected, but did not break down in any way.. did not even peel... as an addition I was also using Aveeno over night to keep everything well moisturised..

Oh, and you should be able to get Flamigel on prescription or from your team.

  • Hi I had 35/radiotherapy sessions and burned badly from week 5 one lymph  node was very close to surface so couldn’t be avoided. During treatment I had my neck wrapped before mask went in in industrial making film.  Then after each session a pollen bandage was put on i had  to wear this day and night and only change of when green gunk came through. It did work my skin healed.

sorry you’ve e found yourself back on the cancer merry go round. If we can help just ask.
