Hi all,
This may be a really stupid question but...
Will I know when the appointment is my treatment planning appointment? And will I be allowed to take someone with me to it?
Had a biopsy two weeks ago, I was being discussed at the MDT meeting today and I've just got a text and email with an apointment on Monday but no other details. I have left a voicemail but the dept are really not great at getting back to me.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers.
John
I was told when my appointment was for planning and I was directed to the right department.
I took my husband with me
The planning is in two parts. You have a mask made which is marked up then a CT with contrast. Your someone will have to leave the room for the scan. My husband sat in the control room with the radiographers.
I had mine done one after the other with mask made while I was on the CT scanner bed.
Some people have two separate appointments
Some masks come with eyeholes if yours doesn’t ask the radiographers to cut some out for you

That will likely be to discuss your treatment and get consent form signed. If there is a dental unit there you might have a check up straight away. I did. Then a planning appointment was made at a future date.
My husband came with me to all the appointments till I got the all clear. Then he abandoned me

Hi yes no,problem in taking someone with you my husband came to every appointment before during and afterwards. Mondays meeting will be to tell you results if mdt sign consent forms and the next steps which are usually dental check then mask making.p which usually involves another appointment as planning scans need to be taken whilst wearing mask. Like Daninsays ask for eye holes ti be cut out that makes a big difference.

Ah ok. Well I guess I will just wait and see what they say on Monday.
Thanks again Dani!
I was told what each appointment would consist of ,first was meeting with oncologist for signing of consent forms ,then my mask fitting and scans came after dental assessment My wife came and took photos of the mask being fitted then had to leave the room while scans were done for planning reasons .
My radiotherapy clinic was closed over the weekends so no contact availability. but was given an emergency number in case of side effects from treatment.
Hi
Do you know whether you’re having surgery or CRT (or both) yet?
My experience seems a bit different to others here. I had an unknown primary that they suspected was in the tonsil. I was told I’d have surgery, but only given the details over the phone the night before my op!
I’ve only seen an ENT surgeon and never seen an oncologist, although I’m sure an oncologist has been part of the discussion.
Hi.
not got a treatment plan yet. They’ve been searching for the primary. (Will get the results of the surgical biopsy on Monday.) I’ve had my tonsils removed and PET scan showed indicators on base of tongue, so they’d targeted there. Guess we see what they say on Monday! ♂️
thanks for your reply mate!

Hi, just echoing what the others said.
My +1 was with me the whole time and as his mom also had head and neck cancer, their conversations between him and my team got quite robust and he would not miss any appointments
Like others said at this point they will probably tell you if you will go down surgical route or not. Explain to you what it or anything else means, possible side effects if any and if needed you can have time to think about it. But you should ask for your team's recommendation and the level or urgency if you want time for your decision.
Mine was a mess due to bringing private consultant scans to NHS. The first scans showed a huge growth (scanned after the biopsy so everything looked wrong) and then the later scans with NHS showed nothing.
During the MDT meeting they decided to treat me anyway because there was visible dysplasia and take a new biopsy.
I am glad they did because during the biopsy taking they found a tumour that the later scans didn't see and took it all out.
The next meeting qas to discuss their findings and lab results and the next MDT recommendations, where they told me the tumour size, nature and margins.
I was given the options to take out the lymph nodes or carry on with watchful waiting abd what they each meant, risks and not pressured to make a decision on the spot.
I think this is all before the planning appointment.
