Hello Everyone. My husband has started week 3 of treatment for tonsil cancer. He’s starting to feel effects now with dry mouth and soreness. He’s in hospital during the week and home at weekends. I’m looking for advice on what I can feed him at home.

He says:“it looks like food will have to be little and often, easy to digest cool and bland for a little while.”

What do you recommend? He’s got 40sips too which he is going to start on, and a PEG but can manage swallowing.

TIA for your help xx

  • Hi there

Soft foods like custard, eggs, rice puddings and creamy desserts are easy to tolerate. He may find that his taste changes though around this time. Foods started to taste bitter and unpalatable around end of week 3 and I ended up just on supplement drinks. I didn’t have a PEG or NG tube so there were more calories in the drinks rather than the food I was eating. The tiny pots of Ambrosia rice are ideal. There’s probably about 3-4 tsp in one little pot so there’s no wastage.

    Sending hugs

  • Banana/Avocado/peanut butter/ice cream or full fat milk shake. Packs in everything he needs in a small volume.
