Hi again
I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?
I did ask for a button to be fitted, but my dietician avoided answering the question and passed it on to my PEG nurse, and I never heard about it again. It was when I was having issues with the tube. I think I will ask again when I have my tube changed. It will save the tube from getting caught up or pulled. It's simple enough to do, although I have never seen one in the flesh.

hi am so sorry to hear your mum is going thro this i was 16 days in hospital some days i could stand and sit on a comode other days i could not even do that the stitches were very tight so that did not help but was not the only reason for the pain, i ended up on slow release morphine tablets plus morphine medicine every 4 hours and that really helped but i was day 14 being able to get out of bed to use commode day 15 before i could walk to the toilet in my room in the hospital and then day 16 could come home as i could walk to the bathroom, is it the muscle pain mum is in pain with? i found that pain so bad trying to move i really feel for your mum bless her i know how it is and it is really not nice xx
Yeah she finds it painful to move but is managing one or two walks to the toilet or asks for the commode..
she says it’s like a sharp pain that just comes quick and hits her I’m not sure if it’s muscle spasms?
it’s also been oozing a lot so they’re going to give her antibiotics for infection.. she’s also getting really bloated with it..
her stitches are still in they look really tight they’re taking them out tomorrow hopefully that gives her some relief she’s been on the same pain medication as you’ve mentioned and also paracetamol
it’s awful didn’t think it would be this bad they made out like it was a simple procedure and she’d be home the next day
thank you for replying xx
yes i had painful muscle spasms as well and its good mum can walk to toilet or stand up to sit on a commode i couldent even do that so sounds like she is doing well even tho it wont feel like she is and i agree they make out its such a simple easy painless procdure my c n s said they not had anyone in as long as me but when the rig nurse came to the ward to do the balloon etc she told me that was not true hopefully once stitches come out that will make it feel much better i was lucky i had no oozing and no infection at all but hopefully once they sort this it will again become more bearable but the muscle spasms are painful mine did get better but still got them here and there the whole time it was in but it was only the odd 1 here and there hopefully once the stitches are out that will make it more bearable let me know how mum gets on am here to talk anytime u need to i had my rig out less than 3 weeks ago now so only just thro the other side myself so if i can help in any way iam only to happy to xx
Hi
Thankfully feeling a lot better now they’re out but still got some pain which she’ll have to manage with the medication. She’s scared to rely on medication especially morphine due to addiction but we try to explain to her you have cancer and pain you need to take it and not suffer.
She’s done a short walk with physio they just want to see how she manages stairs before discharge x

Hi fruity. We don’t get addicted. Addiction is psychological as well as physical. What we do get is tolerance. The body gets used to the drug so we can’t stop suddenly. The longer you are on opiates the longer you take to gradually reduce the drug. It’s not addiction. So please put your mum’s mind at rest.
What she does need if she is taking morphine are laxatives. That’s imperative.
I should add that there is a caveat for those who are recovering opiate addicts
