Hi again

I’m currently in hospital after having a RIG fitted yesterday and I’ve never had so much pain in my life. I’m meant to be going home today but it hurts my stomach to move or walk, I’m so fed up, did anyone else suffer this much with the fitting?

    Hi Fruity

I had morphine via different routes, pump, Oramorph and slow release MST .... helped me get through the tough times, withdrawal was gradual and uneventful.

  • please tell your mum to take the morphine its the only thing that helped me thro the rig pain and the worst times going thro it all and its so easy to wean off when the time comes i weaned off just 2 weeks ago and iam fine i told my docs they needed to send me to rehab to get off it all in the early days but slowly cut down was no problem to come off it it is such a help and mum will need it but i agree with the constipation side of it beesuit mentioned keep taking everything given for that whilst on the morhpine xx

  • Thank you for the reassurance I will let her know.. She’s also finding it sort of heavy cause it’s just dangling down scared it my pull out or get caught on something.. any tips for this? X

  • Hello Fruity
I used to tuck mine up under my bra…. I took to wearing the very soft pull on Sloggi bras as everything else was uncomfortable with the Rig.  When showering I used to tape it (this is an option for during the day too) but your Mum might find that this pulls on her skin too much when she removes the tape and makes it sore.  I used to make sure I varied the positioning of the tape from day to day to minimise the problem.

An alligator clip.... small plastic one, attached to a piece of cord...tie the cord to the feeding tube then the clip can be attached to clothes or bra straps.... for showering I attached it to a leather necklace.

  • I followed Liz111’s advice and brought a non-underwires bra and tucked it in the cup and you can forget about it! Also I’ve since brought more comfy bras as the underwires ones touch the rig which is very high up on me!

Also you can buy rig holders from Amazon  which I found uncomfortable in the summer but probably ok now it’s colder as t they fit around your middle.. Sue x

  • i used nursing tape they gave me and taped it up i also used to push my belly up with my hand as i stood up and held my belly when i walked to stop it moving has mum got home yet? xx
