my partner finished his treatment 30 rt 2 chemo nearly 8 weeks ago.

we saw the ent consultant and oncologist at the beginning of this week and they both said everything looked fine as far as they could see (tube down nose and feeling neck and looking in mouth )and that he would be having a scan in july at 12 weeks

however he has just been sent a letter for a c.t scan for next sunday .

is this normal ?

neither of them said he would need to come in for a c.t scan mid june .

i,m getting worried again now. he is having earache on a night in one ear and ent consultant said his salivia gland was swollen (healing he said ) and he was,nt worried

thanks

  • thanks everyone ..heard from the cn today and yes its a mistake ..the consultant requested the scan but did not put he wanted it mid july, so they just booked the next available . i have just spoken to the ct lady about the booking and asked for a little longer if possible 13 or 14 weeks .    if it was not for reading on here that it should be at least 12 weeks we would have wasted our time and theirs taking up a scan that someone else is probably waiting for ..anyway no damage done apart from abit of worry on my part lol

  • All good then. Best of luck and hope results do t take too long.

  • Back again for advise.  He is really struggling at the moment with no energy at all ,been like it for at least a week and it's really getting him down. .to be truthful he seems to be getting worse not better. He did well through treatment and apart from the couple of weeks straight after was coming on great.   They have increased the meds up to deal with the earaches  Would that make him have no energy and lethargic do you think

  • Hi Dani,   he was taking 2 x 30/500 co-codamol before bed

    2 x 8/500 cc about 4am

and 2 paracetamol twice in the day ..they have told him to stop the just paracetamol in the day  and go to 8/500 in the day to keep the pain relief even ..increase to 30/500 if it does not work ..but it seems to be working for the pain .but he is so lethargic ,just no energy at all .  this has been for a couple of weeks but is getting worse . he is 10 weeks after treatment and has been taking the extra tabs ones since last wed

  • We all react differently to opioid analgesia and with the short term effects of RT. Some people are poleaxed for a long time. I really much doubt it’s anything but that. Phone his CNS to put your mind at rest.

  • thanks , i will do ..its just he was doing so well a few weeks ago (apart from the earache),he likes golf and was managing 9 holes a couple of times a week and managing to eat  ,now he has gone back to nearly all ensures and completely no energy .

  • thanks for your replies Dani .

  • e likes golf and was managing 9 holes a couple of times a week

Honestly, that is probably the reason. Really RT takes a lot out of you. I don’t think people realise just what the effect on our metabolism is. He needs to recover and it can’t be hurried. At ten weeks walking the dog was a slow plod round one of our fields.
