my partner finished his treatment 30 rt 2 chemo nearly 8 weeks ago.
we saw the ent consultant and oncologist at the beginning of this week and they both said everything looked fine as far as they could see (tube down nose and feeling neck and looking in mouth )and that he would be having a scan in july at 12 weeks
however he has just been sent a letter for a c.t scan for next sunday .
is this normal ?
neither of them said he would need to come in for a c.t scan mid june .
i,m getting worried again now. he is having earache on a night in one ear and ent consultant said his salivia gland was swollen (healing he said ) and he was,nt worried
thanks
Hi debs5853
Youre right that PET is usually 12 weeks plus after treatment end.
I had an MRI at 12 weeks then a PET at 16
Theres no point in worrying so ring your CNS and find out why the CT has been booked.

at the weekend when you cannot ring up and ask someone ...
I know. Awful. My swallowing and pain crashed on a Friday afternoon and I had to struggle through the weekend ….. sigh.
Chin up. Oncologist said he wasn’t worried. Maybe it’s an admin error.
( as an aside my chest CT before treatment showed up two lung nodules which were re scanned three months later )

i did wonder if somewhere along the line if they have got the months wrong.i,ll check and update here monday .
ent consultant said he could see nothing ..and scan would be mid july .
oncologist checked everything also the day after and said ent had done his job for him (requesting scan ) and that hopefully he would not see us again now ,as it will be all ent consultant from now on unless theres a problem
so i will try not to worry too much .
have a good weekend
Good evening debs5853, if both your husband's consultant and oncologist are happy with his progress then i would not be worrying at this moment in time, it sounds as if its an admin error, don't let it ruin your weekend or the progress your husband has made as its always good when the professionals are both in agreement, all the best, take care.

My consultant wanted me to have a base line ultra sound after Mt last appointment. When my appointment did not arrive after four weeks I rang and spoke to my consultants secretary. I was advised that it was not classed as urgent so request that goes to xray booking clerks is marked as such and could be 12 weeks turnaround. I would therefore think it I more likely the correct box has not been ticked on the booking request. Take care xx
just a update ..thanks to you for your replys .spoke to the cn today and she thinks its a mistake , but she could not get hold of the ent consultant. she is going to try to get hold of him tomorrow
Hi x it might help to know that when my ENT requested my scan, he put it through on an urgent request expecting it to take a while for the appointment to come through and that I'd be at c. 12 weeks post treatment by the time I got an appt. The imaging team then called me in within a few days for a cancellation appointment. I did tell them that I thought it was a bit early but they were quite keen that I take the appointment. It was over a weekend so I ended up having the scan (think it was at 9 weeks post treatment). Unsurprisingly, the images were not conclusive as I was still healing. For all subsequent scans, ENT put an earliest date so that this error was not repeated. So hopefully, this is all that's happened here.
Hi Debs5853, I’m a bit late in replying and hopefully you have got the reassurance you need about the scans. I had my CT scan at 12 weeks post RT/CT as expected which was then quickly followed by a PET which was sooner than I was expecting which then got me worrying as to why. Fortunately both scans were clear.
I have had intermittent earache since my treatment which has been put down to the damage to nerves by RT. I have also been referred to audiology as a precaution however there is was problem found.
All the best with your partners recovery.
