So a few weeks ago I woke up with a sore swelling on side of my tongue…did some rinses with mouthwash and seemed to go but has come back…went straight to GP who said it was around 1cm and has referred me on a 2 week wait to Max facial at local hospital…I recently lost my husband to Glioblastoma and I just don’t think I’m strong enough to cope…I have ear pain and jaw pain and I keep feeling my neck for lumps I’m like a woman possessed…my imagination has run riot and I am playing every worse scenario in my head…did the worst thing by going on google..I’m so sorry to bother all you lovely people but I don’t have many people to vent to…Ellie x

  • Hi Bird67. Please keep off Dr Google now you've found us in here we will all help. It’s so Eastport to frighten  yourself with Google at the best its outdated and at the worst many things are incorrect.
The waiting’s the worst part of it all it’s fear of the unknown fear of what’s to come. Try to keep busy I watched numerous mind numbing box sets and crocheted anything to distract yourself.

  • Thankyou so much x I’m really going to try x

  • Hi

I noticed a sore patch on my tongue last Autumn, been there about a month or so I think. Had a routine dental check up, dentist referred me to max-fax.

It was all quite scary how quickly it happened (but all terribly efficient) - biopsy showed it was cancer.

I had surgery in January but fortunately then needed no further treatment. So technically now I have no cancer.

All in not much more than 6 months!

Folks here are great. If you do get a diagnosis of cancer and are on FB then there is a group there I will recommend called Young Tongues.

However in the meantime I would try not to let your brain jump ahead too much and try and look after yourself.

  • Hi Ellie , only just seen this and stay positive. My hubby had cancer of mandibular and had surgery at Chelmsford and rt at Southend so not a million miles away. The Maxifacial teams are excellent and stick on here as these lovely people are true warriors and am thankful for the support they have always given me x

  • Thank you so much for the reply…I’ve got a small lesion but it’s making half my tongue sore…I’ve felt much better talking to people on here so thank you x
