Hi Everyone.
First post here so really hoping for some advice. I saw ENT after a 2 week referral Friday. I honestly wasn't expecting anything to come of it and nearly cancelled. Dr looked in my mouth, i have a swollen right tonsil, and instantly said he was concerned. He took 3 biopsies right there, and used a camera to look up my nose/down throat. Hes sending me for MRI and CT scan and said the lump will be cut out.
Now, am i fooling myself in thinking hes just being on the safe side?. Im 42, a heavy smoker, and ive already had bladder cancer in 2015. I did quit, but started again after a family tragedy.
If it is tonsil cancer, then it is!. But only symptom has been bit of a sore throat. No lump in neck. Although the lump is quite large and kind of solid.
Im a single parent to 4, and my youngest is 6 and has severe learning dissabilities. She needs a lot of care. He Dad was killed in a hit and run last Aprill and we are still coming to terms with that. Anyway, it was the Drs obvious concern that worried me.
Ok great thanks!. I mean it makes sense now you say. I had an chest xray couple of months ago due to being breathless and i never heard anything back, so i assume all was well haha!. Having gone through bladder cancer before i know its best to stay off google but it can be bloody tempting.
Its half term now so the kids will keep me busy. Well, my youngest will, the teenagers will prob be in there room
Good evening vic1969, in a way its good that all these scans biopsies etc are being done so quickly, im afraid there are no quick answers as nobody knows what lies ahead until the scan and biopsies results are in, As i have learned the hard way heavy smoking certainly does not help but stopping can be so difficult, thankfully i stopped just before my first operation in 2008. I have not had cancer of the tonsils but there are quite a few on here who have had it and come through the operations and treatment should it be needed. Hopefully, your results will come back within two weeks with clear results, i know that waiting is one of the worst times so hang on in there and good luck with everything, take care.

Hi. The waiting is the worst part all of us can testify to that. Best advise keep off DR Google the info at best is out of date. Keep busy sm sure your kids will do that. If it is tonsil cancer I was 61 when diagnosed and 5.5 years later I’m still here happily living my life.
Fingers x you don’t need us but we’re here if you do.

Hi Vic. Get as much help as you can with this. You won't respond as well to radiotherapy if you're still smoking . It is worth it, don't forget. As an ex myself...though many years ago I know how difficult it is.

Hi Vic1969,
I am so sorry for your loss. The last thing that you or your family need is all this.
I had an MRI and Ultrasound and am due a biopsy on Wed 14th. I went to the Dr as I had trouble swallowing- no pain. The endoscopy had seen a lesion on the base of my tongue but it is not visible to me. The MRI showed nothing on the lymphs and that saliva glands were clear.
Having been for a check up at the Dentist just a few months ago I feel that surely she would have noticed anything amiss, but who knows?
The waiting is just awful ,isn't it? I go from being 100% positive to just wanting to curl up in a ball.
I intend to ask the surgeon to give me his best opinion as to what it all is when I see him on Weds. I am not sure I can wait for another 2 weeks. I know he won't be able to confirm either way but I am just hoping he can indicate a potential likelihood based on what he sees. I just think I will feel better if I know something.
Here's hoping that we are both worrying over nothing and can get back to worrying about our usual issues. They are still there .
The support from people on here really helps and I am so grateful to them all.
Take care and good luck

My dentist didn’t spot mine but I did.
The recommended exam for oral cancer is supposed to have the tongue held in a swab or suchlike and pulled out quite far. That way you can see the back of it. I suspect not many dentists are that thorough which is a pity

Hi Lorraine, sorry to hear you are going through the same. Hope the surgeon can give you a bit more info. Im the same, 100% one minute, then planning how we'd deal with treatment the next!. Its just the way we have to process it i think till we get any solid answers. Def come back and update me on how Wednesday goes x
I will definitely keep you posted. I think our brains try to protect us from over thinking and keep throwing in the positivity to keep us afloat. The treatment sounds horrendous-but with what you have been through with your loss , I am sure you are more resilient than you think you are. x .
