I am starting my treatment tomorrow. I have been very calm this last week but actually feeling quite panicked now. My family have been lovely on zoom etc but I know it’s got to be me alone that undertakes this treatment. I just keep having thoughts that I just can’t do it. Lizzie
Completely understandable feelings to have Lizzie but you can do it, lost count of the people I've met online and in the flesh who felt exactly as you do but we all got through. You'll actually be surprised, if you're like most, how quickly it passes; just trust in your team and never be afraid to ask for help, they're brilliant people for whom this is "routine," no matter how difficult and scary it feels for you.
Ask anything and everything on here as well, no matter how big, or trivial, it feels; guys on here have held my hand twice now and will always be here for you. Very best wishes for tomorrow, will be thinking of you.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Thankyou MikeO. Those are kind words but I just can’t seem to believe I can do this treatment. It all seems just completely overwhelming. A mountain to climb. I know that you have all done it so it must be possible. Lizzie
Hi Lizzie,
A great reply from Mike. It is a scary time but just take each day as it comes and think of it as a day closer to beating this. You can do this!
All the best

Hi Lizzie. You’re bound to feel frightened and overwhelmed but remember this is curing you. We are all here to support each other with shoulders to lean on, reassurance, tips for surviving and lots of hugs.
The first week is fairly uneventful with RT. By the end of the second week you’ll probably start to feel uncomfortable. This is all normal so just roll with it. Keep on top of pain by taking your analgesics by rote, not just when you feel you need them. You’ve got this.A day at a time. We will all get you through xx
PS are you having chemotherapy?

Thankyou beesuit. I have been so worried I forgot to think about the curing bit! I have chemo as well tomorrow. I feel much better now that you have all replied. Thankyou.
Hi Lizzie
If I can do it you can do it I am a self confessed wimp if I break a fingernail I cry I kid you not. But I put my big girl knickers on and held my head up high take one day at a time. Like Dani says the first week flies by usually fairly uneventful I got a sensation of buzzing in my throat that was about it. By end if week 2 things start to ramp up. Are you having chemo ? If you are take things in with you a book I pad kindle crossword just anything to pass the time. I took my own tea bags and nibbles well for first session I did. My week3 I just took stuff to amuse me.
Remember your teams is there to help you if they don’t know how you are feeling they can’t help. We’re all here routing for you nothing is too silly to ask we’ve been there got the t shirt.
Pop on when you can to let us know how day 1 was.
I also did yoga breathing while on tanks snd took my head off on bike rides or walks. Plus watched the machine whirl round.

Hi Lizzie,
I meant to reply to your post before as I had the same diagnosis as you at the end of February. I had surgery, radio and chemo. Some bits of it were not pleasant, I'm not going to lie, but it was doable and I'm still here! Feeling really bad at the mo - do you know why?? Just had a week away, fab holiday but plump middle aged women do not bounce well when they fall off segways That is where I am 6 months on, you got this lady, you will be on the other side soon xxxx
Thankyou so much Juliesss. Your post has made me laugh and cry. Onwards and upwards. Lizzie xx
