My husband had rig fitted just over 2 weeks ago he has 2 anchor stitches in little capsules either side of tube which he was told were dissolvable stitches. He was getting on ok until last thurs, the fresanius  nurse came to remove stitches and check wound, she had never seen the type he has and he was so sore she didnt want to touch it so said wait til op date ..thurs 18th...he has now been laying flat for 2 days as he is so sore he said it feels secondary to the pain in his neck from the cancer ..did anyone else have these?  when did stitches allow anchors to fall off ?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Cissy, sorry to hear your husband is having this trouble with his RIG I had a RIG fitted, it had the small capsules stitched in each side, they told me the district nurse would remove them after ten days, which she did, which gave me great relief, as it had been quite sore for a few days. If your husband is still sore from it, it might be an idea to get in touch with his team, to see if anything can be done sooner.

When it all settles down, I'm sure he will be pleased to have it. It will be one less worry, if eating gets difficult during or after treatment.

All the best with his op.

    Regards to you both, Ray.

  • Yes they said they would take them out last thurs but nurse hadn't seen his sort of anchors before its so frustrating ..thsnk u for replying may need to go to a and e as its a weekend Upside down

  • Good advice from Ray, Cissy. I had a PEG feeding tube which is similar it's just the way its fitted, i have never had any anchoring stitches so i cannot help, i would phone the hospital or speak to your Dr as it could be an infection, i know the area can become painful as i had it two weeks ago so they came out and changed the tube. Hope you manage to get some medical help or advice for your husband, best wishes.
