I'm 29 years old and recently discovered a small white lump in the soft palate of my mouth, I noticed it about 6 weeks ago been to my gp and he has referred me to a specialist for a biopsy. I also feel like I've something stuck in my throat.that clicks when I swollow. I keep getting ear pain ear ringing and headaches. I also have discovered a few years ago I have HPV. Please can anybody help me, know what else it could be?

Thank you

  • Hi Laura

I am no medic but your GP has referred you on to the specialist for the biopsy which will inform on what it is.  Know it is a waiting game and that can be the hardest part.

Try not to get too much ahead in thinking through all the scenarios it could be.  Maybe others on the forum will reply with more information.

    Take care

  • Hi Laura

    First don’t panic.
What has your GP told you?
He can’t tell from looking so he has done the proper thing and sought a second opinion.
Nobody here is qualified to offer that opinion, I’m afraid, but 29 years old seems to be a little young to be suffering from oral cancer.
Keep yourself busy don’t look anything up on Google. It may not be anything serious but if it is it’s best dealt with asap.
    Wishing you luck.

Hi thanks for replying. My gp had said hes 99.9 percent sure its nothing to worry about, however I dont feel right. I'm a smoker and a drinker and have HPV. It worrys me as I lost my mum and dad to cancer. I just wanted to know if anybody knew what else it could be other than cancer and why I'm getting the symptoms I am

    Thank you

  • That’s what your second opinion is about. To answer those questions.
It’s a frightening thing to be worried about cancer and the mind can do awful things with phantom symptoms.

It might help talking to your doctor again. Maybe he can give you something to relieve your anxiety.

Hi. I have been to see the specialist who didn't want to do a biopsi as he didn't think there is anything wrong. I have a feeling that there is a lump in my throat that makes it difficult to swallow and also I've woke up this morning with neck ache.

  • That’s very good news.
I’d dismiss the neck ache adjust one of these things.
Swallowing problem is probably globus which can happen if you are stressed.
Your specialist has had a look at you so take his word and relax.
