Hi
Harry started week 3 Chemo/radio on Wednesday. 2 x radio left and it's on to week 4. He is at the point where he is on home made milkshakes, fortisips and fortijuice - though the juices really dry his mouth out. He started out weighing 85 kg having put about 4 or 5 kg on and maintained this until last week when he lost 3.3kg in a week. I knew his weight had gone from his neck, his lump in neck is barely palpable at all. I am so concerned about weight loss - I think I'm paranoid!!
What I'm getting to is - he is still swallowing. We have all these products which he is using , but we are not sure if they are being used to the best effect. Could anyone advise on the following -
Caphosol, gel Clare, difflam mouthspray... Think that's it.
He started by taking 2 x co codomol last night, not much pain , he describes it as each time he swallows a knife sticking in the back of his throat- not dissimilar to when he had tonsils out .
Any advice would be lovely

Hi Lisa
I can't advise on Caphosol or gel Clare as I didn't use either product. I did however use Difflam mouthspray and mouthwash. It's works like an anaesthetic so I was advised to use it just before eating to ease the pain in my mouth/throat for just long enough to get some food down.
I'm sure others will be along to give advice on the other products.
Sounds like Harry's doing well so far.

Difflam I used as a mouthwash. It certainly made my mouth feel better
Gelclair didn’t really do anything for me.
Caphosol I’m sure shortened the time I had mucositis. I’m not sure it actually soothes the mouth though but helps healing. It’s said that if it works it’s best used as early as possible.
Hope that helps.
