Morning everyone

Ken and I both have our first consultant appointments since finishing treatment this week. Mine is today and Ken’s tomorrow.

I’m just wondering about questions we should ask for Ken. I’ve got down the following:

- When will he get scanned - some say 12 weeks some say 16 weeks

- Auricular acupuncture  - will the trust fund this and does it have a list of recommended practitioners

- Greater risk of stroke - should he take statins and is there anything else that could prevent this

- Restorative teeth - can he have some, and if so....when

- He’s dizzy a lot, why is this

- PEG tube removal - when

- Can we go to Zante on 01/05/2020 for a bit of 5* relaxation

My only boob question is why does it still hurt a lot and can I have a nipple please!! Think my appointment will be a quick one!!

Can any of the very experienced of you in these matters think of any other questions we should be asking?

  • Hi

Scanning is per hospital protocol so worth asking

NHS is pretty good at funding alternative therapies but don't hold your breath. I have to pay for my acupuncture. I found my own therapist by emailing all the ones I could find on Google within a 50 mile radius. My consultant is mighty interested in it.

Increase stroke risk is around 8/12% and I have a slightly elevated total lipid so I am taking statins. It makes sense. When I asked my consultant about it the cheeky beggar said, "My, you have been doing your homework!"

I'd be interested in the dizzy bit so do please report back. I understand that pressure receptors in the carotid arteries can be affected intermittently, so you get dizzy when you stand up from a sitting position. Similarly RT can affect the ear balance function too.

I wanted to know who would be in charge of my aftercare as it was mentioned earlier that I would probably be referred to ENT at Carmarthen, which is nearer to me than Swansea. I wasn't happy with that and managed to secure future consults at Swansea split between MaxFac and Onc, both consultants being with me through the journey so far.

I had a friend who had a rubber stick-on nipple Disappointed

    Keep us in the loop

  • A pretty good list.

I'm sure they'll advise but may be worth enquiring how frequently Ken will have checkups now.

If you havn't already been given one, I would also obtain a contact number in case you need it for any reason between checkups.

Other than what you've already mentioned any questions I would ask would be if I had any other concerns as a result of treatment.

Hope your appt went well Sharon and good luck for Ken tomorrow.
