So dad has been recovering well, keep up with shakes and hydration, his face is looking a little more puffed out now a signs he's gaining weight, he's still a horrible green colour but that's to be expected. He managed to stay up all day yesterday from 8-10 with no naps, we watched the x-files together the series is getting a bit weird now but we have been having small discussion and a good laugh at some episodes because honestly some of them are ridiculous, this nasty cough seems to be an issue though, I've looked it up and apparently it's normal with treatment, but he is coughing up thick green phlegm relentlessly and if there's anything that can be done to ease that I think that would make his recovery much easier, any ideas?

  • Hi Acornette, sometimes if it that colour he could have an infection as the clearer the mucus is the better, you could as the hospital if they can loan your dad a nebuliser that helps moisten the airways, lungs etc breaking down the mucus,i also found a good swill out using a decent mouthwash helps, you can get it on prescription. The old method was to fill a bowl of hot water and add Vick then put the head over the bowl and inhale the steam, putting a cloth over the head helps keep it contained. This mucus issue will improve and he will find it easier to cough it up (not a nice subject ). My oh my, your dad is certainly improving and its great to see you all talking and watching tv, NetFlix etc together, laughter is the best medicine. You could ask if they could give him something for the green mucus as it's not nice going from experience.

Thanks for the update and well done to you all in getting to this stage, wishing you all the best.
