hi everybody, cant fault n.h.s. here everything seems to be happening at once here.
ct,mri, assessements, procedure dates. i only pointed out a lump on my neck as i was going out
of my docs. 1.5 wks ago. tongue and lymph nodes. now they are talking about tube to feed in
stomach. wish i hadn't mentioned this.
But good job you did mention it. You’ve saved your life.
Lots of us, young and old, have been through this, survived and thrived and are here for support and advice. Most of us were in rude health till the doctors got hold of us too. You are not alone.
Stay and Good luck.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
I was only visiting my GP back in 2013 because I'd hurt my wrist while on holiday "catching" a falling rented scooter, only while I was sat in the waiting room it I felt a bit silly because the pain had largely gone. Decided to mention the little swelling I'd noticed in my neck while shaving on the same holiday and whoosh, someone hit the "fast forward" button!
Eternally grateful to my GP because I didn't actually "fit" the official guidelines for a fast-track referral but he did one anyway bless him. Had I not hurt my wrist would I still be here? I'll never know.
Anyway as Beesuit (Dani) said above it's a good job you did mention it; the earlier it's caught the better.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
Hi Manup1
Welcome to this fantastic forum . Stick around as it's a wealth of knowledge full of hints, advice and tips from guys/gals that have literally been there and got the t shirt. I have found it invaluable.
My hubby Harry aged 53 found a lump in his neck last summer - aug/Sept time. He mentioned this to me and in October 14th to be exact was that 1st gp visit, fast forward.....diagnosed on 22 November with SCC secondary- lymph node. Biopsy of tonsils / base of tongue mid Dec led to primary being found - base of tongue . We got this news mid Jan I believe .
So
18 weeks after that 1st gp visit
Monday this week had RIG fitted.
Wednesday this week started what is to be 6 weeks of 30 radiotherapy with 6 chemo.
All the very best to you. Stick around , this group has been amazing with advice and support.

hi, i'd like to thank every one for their replies. i have had my neck lump for the best part of a year.
but as the name implies (manup) it is nothing to worry about. about 2"long roughly 1" deep.
fit as a fiddle apart from multiple pulmonary embolisms april last year. so there was enough going on
didnt want to bother the wife. but god i could sleep for scotland. getting biopsies next week. base of tongue and lymph node. i keep saying to myself it's o.k. nothing to worry about, but talking to specialist
and my doctor it seems to be pointing otherwise. i put taste in my mouth down to altering drugs but thats all leveled out and the taste if i could describe it is like the saliva glands are going 20 to the dozen. does any of this make any sense?

Hi Paul
my lump was in the hollow of my collar bone similar size to yours if I am honest I felt it as we were just boarding ferry for 10 week trip to Spain ,thought ok I enjoy pulled it carrying stuff up 4 flights of stairs on boat .Cycled 1100 km whilst away not and for a 61 year old who unknowingly had tonsil cancer that had already started sending dead cells to lymph node, it’s surprising what you learn whilst on this expedition! Refuse to call it a journey journeys are to me me nice things !
I honestly had no other symptoms no pain no sore throat no loss of appetite in fact I had never been as fit in my life . Fast forward home drs has lump still there 14 days cancer pathway and has they say the rest is history. we are a friendly bunch in here many of us have read the book got the t shirt .Between us we will help you as much as we can .
